Question Does my Sig offend you?

Not to draw attention to my sig or anything, but I was recently requested to remove my sig because of what people say it represents. My contention is that if a religious belief is sacred to you then it is YOUR responsibility and ONLY YOUR responsibility to that belief. Destroying property, killing the innocent, and other animalistic actions because someone does not share your belief system should not push us into submission, and is the reason America is still standing after 9/11. To avoid getting into a big debate about this matter, I am going to "take it to the people" and ask them if I need to take my sig off.

I personally am not offended.......I think it funny. You live in the U.S. which gives you freedom of speech.

No it doesn't offend me personally, however, I can see how it would offend the Muslim community. Due to the amount of contraversy these images have caused around the world and out of respect for our Muslim friends, I would recommend that you delete this image from your sig. I beleive in freedom of expression but not if it becomes offensive to a large community. Peace and respect!!

You should remove it before someone blows something up.

I would keep it on if I liked it until someone was offended by it. At first, I didn't know that was even a Muslim. I mean now I can see it, but at first I didn't notice. I mean if you didn't mean to put the picture in a way to prove a point, as if you just thought the drawing looked cool, then everything should be ok. However, if you are trying to prove something, then stuff will start to stir up.

Thumbs down

I think it's offensive to the Muslim community and all others. It's an ignorant cartoon. For those of you who don't know what it represents, it is supposed to be the Muslim Prophet Mohamad. He is equivalent of Christianity's Jesus Christ in the Muslim world. ONLY A SMALL HANDFULL OF MUSLIMS BLOW SH*T UP! So why show our ignorance and say that all Muslims are extremeist. If it was Bin Laden, or anyone else from the terrorist groups, no problem, but it tries to represent all Muslims.

It would be like saying all Christians blow up abortion clinics.

I had trouble with this one. I had to go along with asking that it be removed only because of the trouble it caused in the middle east.

I for one believe this is the internet, and it should a place of total freedom of speech. But you have a group of people that are willing to be violent over a cartoon, you have to have moderation.

For people to behave that way is completely unacceptable and they should be punished. But until they are, we need to do what we can to calm them down so they don't burn anything else. If simply removing a cartoon for a while helps, then I have to go along with it.

I personally was not offended, ut many people from other religions and backgrounds can be on this site, and I can see where it could be offensive to them.

I never had the chance to see it. I assume for all those who it didn't offend it is because you are not Muslim. When we cause someone else discomfort for our humour that is unfair. Having said that I likely would have chosen a 4th option - removing out of consideration to the feelings of other thoughtful fellow humans. Now as was pointed out had this been of Osama, not Muhammed then totally different ball game.

Hypothetically: I'm offended by the color blue, therefore; I want the color of the sky changed.

Guess what folks, isn't going to happen and nor should it. One of the things I love about my country is that we have the right to 'be offended' by anything. What folks don't understand, imo, is that we do NOT have the right to 'not be offended'. As long as you're not breaking the law or infringing on someone elses freedoms/rights, keep it in the sig my man.

Jeff
