06 2.2 randomly goes into "limp mode"

So, I used limp mode in quotation marks, because I don't get the "engine power reduced" message on the dic. Usually it's at higher throttle opening, or fairly heavy load. The car will start flashing the cel, and have next to no power. I have to slip the clutch, and keep it above 3k to even drive. Sometimes it will just die, and take several attempts to restart.

I'll pull over, clear the code* and turn it off. When I restart it, drives fine, full power.

*only code is P0300, not very helpful. One time only I got some sort of throttle actuator control code, I forget the number.

A month or so ago, it started running real rough, no power, etc overnight. I replaced the original fuel filter, when that didn't fix it, I threw on a new coil/icm I had mistakenly bought a few years earlier. Cleared it up, except now it's doing the crap I talked about above.

Thanks for any advice, the dudes over on "yourcobalt" didn't even reply to my thread.

Also, sorry for the novel, just trying to get all the info out there

Flashing CEL is cat damaging misfire which means consistent misfire while injecting significant enough fuel volume to potentially damage the cat. Have you looked at your spark plugs? That would be the first thing to do. Keep track of which cylinder each came out of and compare them to see if they are consistent as far as buildup and color. If one is significantly different from the others you could have an issue specific to that cylinder.

Thanks for the reply. I'll definitely pull the plugs and check em out. Especially since this all started after the new coil/icm

It's just so weird that as soon as I clear the code, and restart, it's perfectly fine. Makes me feel like there's really nothing wrong, and the car just get a little "confused" if that makes sense
