09 SS/TC loss of power
 
I drove to work yesterday, and the car ran perfect. Then on the way home, i experienced a decent amount of power loss. The car still makes 15psi, but it just dosent go anywhere, well as much as it use to. Plus in the mid rpms, the at WOT, the car power is real jerky, then from 5-6k, it smooths out a lil. I bought the car brand new, i got 900 miles on it now. I figured it might of been a boost leak, so i snugged up the intercooler clams a bit, made no diffrence. Anyone else have this problem? The cars all stock. Thanks.

I did, the first 1500 miles or so my car would act goofy as hell randomly. It actually did exactly what you're describing, it goes away.

Thats what I thought when mine did it. I have three friends with LSJ's and all of theirs did it too.

stock 09 tc's reset the afr numbers every time you turn off the car...

in order for the computer to recalculate do a run where its WOT through the power band... so like 2k to redline... like rukkee was saying, pretty much go balls out in 3rd from low rpm... do that 2-3 times and try it after that...

come back and tell us what happened.

It was Gettingausernamesucks .....A GM engineer that told me to do that. It sounds crazy right lol.

Heres how to fix this issue. The computer needs to see a fixed long pull at max boost to settle into its calibration window for wastegate pwm settings. Lug the vehicle in third gear at about 30 MPH and do a WOT and let the thing pull hart to about 70 MPH. Do this 4 or 5 times and you will see the boost control settle down. Gettingausername also posted about the intake valves sticking....his fix.....fixed my car for good.

I used some lucas injector cleaner and sucked it into the intake manifold .......I guess or intake valves can stick due to the fact that they are dry in a direct injection motor. With the tight tolerences of this motor they need some lube. After i did that i never had another issue.

When my car would fall on it's face between 2000 and 4500 rpm the exhaust note would change too.

Yeah rukkie, your post descibed everything to a t..and even a lil better about what my car is doing. Its weird, cuz i drove it into work, ran great, then going home, I was messing around with a V6 mustang, and got walked by it...I almost cried, considering I ran down a v8 mustange days befor. So when I do those third gear pulls, do I have to do those every few weeks, or just the 2 or 3 times?

The thing that fixed my car was sucking some lucas injector cleaner into the manifold as the car was running (gettingausername used oil treatment) . I haven't had a problem since . If the 3rd gear pull didn't work .....i would try lubing the intake valves.

Doing the 3rd gear thing should need to be done very often ....I'm guessing here.... but i'd say it's learned like a fuel trim....and only resets after the battery is disconnected .

Hmm, that kinda sucks being that its a new car, gotta recalibrate the ecu every few days. How did you suck the lucas oil in? Do you have a vaccume bottle? Hey whats the learn down feature? Ive seen that a few times on here, dunno what it means.

I think Rukkee meant that it doesn't have to be done very often, unless you are pulling your battery out all the time.

As for the "learn down feature", it basically doesn't allow our cars to gain any horsepower from typical mods. For example, say a new exhaust would normally gain you 10 HP, on our cars it would initially gain that but then the computer would eventually pull back so that it is back to a stock HP curve. Removing that barrier is one of the biggest selling points of a tune.

I have a feeling that the car is doing it when it goes in to "Cat Over Temp mode". This is something that you can change with a custom tune. When the cat reaches a calculated temp it richens the fuel mixture A LOT to help cool down the cat. The overly rich mixture would explain why the car doesn't pull that hard and feels like it's hitting a wall. I'll be messing with that tomorrow night and we'll see if this is the answer.
