2006 2.4 Cobalt SS transmission blown. What are my options?
I have a 2006 Cobalt SS 2.4 automatic. I had my transmission blow. What are my options. Has anyone ever upgraded to a better automatic transmission from somthing like a 3800?

Thanks for the reply!
I had ZZP tune my transmission. I have ran the tune no problem for two years and 40,000 miles. When I was doing a pull today it just didn't shift. Now it won't shift to any gears. However, park does lock. So I figured my transmission is shot.
I will look into getting a replacement. I wasn't sure if any other transmissions would bolt on and give me another gear. Also how much power is a 4t45E rated for horsepower wise?

the 4t45e was used factory in the hhr ss turbo, however at reduced horsepower. they also used them behind a number of v6 engines in larger cars. the key to making them survive is correctly tuning them. the key to tuning is you want to make the shift as short as possible without making it harsh, a tire chirping shift is what causes hard part failure. a smooth, short shift will keep the clutches from slipping, but also keeps from shocking the geartrain. torque management tuning is also key, thats what allows any modern transmission to survive with the ever increasing horsepower.
if you want to go with a bigger trans, it is possible. you can go with a 4t65e-hd from the 3800sc cars, but your gonna need an ecotec to smaller gm bellhousing adapter, the correct flex plate and spacer, along with custom mounts and axles. the control strategy is also a little different, so your going to need to do some in depth computer work.
