2009 SS - Hard to get into 1st, now really hard into R
I have a 2009 SS, owned since new. GMS1 tune (for people curious about power). 36k miles. Stock everything part wise and original clutch.
For a few years now, getting into 1st from a stop would not go, I'd let off clutch then push back and it would usually go in. No real biggie, just odd. Starting last week, I'd go to reverse out of my garage or a parking spot and it would not go in. I'd clutch in/out and try a few times and it would finally go.
Today I went to leave work, had to reverse out. It would not go into R. Tried a few things, nothing. Finally I kinda pushed it in, it grinded and went in.
WTF is wrong?

This. Its a habit now, it isn't everytime that it's hard to go into reverse, but the few times if I went to first it would fall right into reverse after. So now its clutch in start, first then reverse. If it's hard to go into first I'll normally go into 2nd or 4th.
Although if someone can shed some light on this issue it would be great, changing the fluid out didn't make a large difference for me.

Okay after having the unit ripped apart (haven't done since new w/ twm bushings), I see how the issue can be caused.
The grinding can easily be from the ribbed shift cable slipping in the clamp. Also the shift linkage binds....A LOT.
The new twm clamp is in. Test shifts work very well, smoother. If it binds again, just wiggle the shifter a tad and try again.
I'll be ordering a new twm STS w/ extension to raise it up.
