Belt Squeaks with AC on
Supercharged 2.2l using zzp setup, 3.1 pulley
The noise will not occur when it’s cold outside, happens in the afternoon when I’ve been in traffic for a while and is stupid hot out. Squeaks until I start moving and returns when I stop. Or if I turn off the AC there won’t be any squeaks. Only happens when in drive... Any thoughts? |
Any oil leaks?
|
Compressor oil or engine?
Too my knowledge neither, engine oil level was fine a few days ago. Haven’t ran into a dipstick popping out yet lol... where should I be looking for said oil leak |
I get really good cold air when on full blast, but I almost wonder if it’s low on R134A, yet the tech said I lost none during the install. He also dates the belt is tight af
so I wonder if my problem lies with the compressor or automatic tensioner. Or maybe a stretched belt from heat? gates vs delco? Can anyone talk trash about gates belts? |
Usually belts squeak when they slip - either due to a pulley locking up, liquid on the belt, or a bad tensioner.
|
Maybe you need a new belt? When they get old, they slip.
|
belt is a month old. It’s possibly it could have stretched.
Though my pcv breather mists oil every now and then. Now that I think about it. Will be putting on an intake and deleting the breather... it’s possibly in hot weather that oil mist is accumulating on the belt surfaces... |
Thinking automatic tensioner, thoughts?
|
Gonna throw a new tensioner at it pretty soon.
Starting to faintly hear it without the AC on. Talked to some techs they’re suggesting to replace the tensioner and see what happens. Really hoping I don’t have to convert everything to the LSJ setup... to fix this issue lol. The car has got 2-3 N/A serpentine belts over its life never any pulleys or tensioner, so here’s hoping 🤞 its a worn part and not the setup |
Do all the pulleys spin freely if you take the belt off?
|
I’ll have a tech answer that one after Friday.
he’ll take the belt off look at the tensioner and everything and go from there. |
got into today, Tensioner was indeed bad. problem solved!
