Boost guage problem!!
 

Got off work today and started my car, right away I noticed the boost guage not reading. Usually it goes up to the 0. But car seems to be running fine. While driving the car it still works and boost upto 80 kpa(canadian crap!! 12 psi) but as soon I let off on the gas or just drive around at normal speeds its stay down at the -60 kpa. I hope its just the guage malfunction and not the s/c. I have injen on and it goes into the dealer first thing in the morning!! Just worried they will try to blame it on the CAI and void warranty! Seems like a famous thing for the dealer now!! What you guys/gals think?

you should be fine, i have the injen and never had a problem with a dealer with it. The guage is electronic so could be something loose or the guage is just malfuctioning

boost gauge should only read 0 when you have throttle... if there's no throttle you should be in vaccuum, like you're describing. However, if what your'e saying is that when you start the car it would "sweep" the gauge and now it's not, then yeah, something is wrong. I have a mechanical boost gauge so it doesn't do that.

Update.......dealer just called and they said they thought the guage was working fine but were unsure cause they don`t work on alot of supercharged cars. I explained again that it shows -60 kpa(vacuum) when I`m driving around town and not hitting the gas too hard. And it should read around 0 or a little above when not excellerating real hard. Anyway they are going to keep the car overnight and try to compare it to the 07 ss|sc they have on the lot to see if the guages work the same.

I`m driving a 07 malibu they gave me...full power options and electric start!

if the guage turns out to be busted tell them to replace it with the PSI one instead of KPA, KPA is very annoying.

They won`t do that cause it`s and american part number and they to order from the vin number on our "canadian" cars! But the psi would be nicer! I already thought of that!! thanks though!

My 06 does the same thing -60, but once under normal acceleration the needle will rise b/c you are creating a small amount of bost pressure. you have to remember that under normal cruzing speed you are not creating alot of boost and at idle you are under vaccum hence the -60 kpa reading. mine will climb under normal acceleration to around 20 kpa at highway speed say around 120 km/h. the guage is operating normally and you have nothing to worry about. This information came from two performance auto techs I know from SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology)

actually, my car does the same exact thing, and i'm worried that it is my s/c.

i brought it in, and they told me that it's nothing, and that they couldnt find the problem, but i'm taking it back on friday and having it looked at for the last time before i contact GM.

during nomal driving you should be in vacuum since the bypass is open.
When you accel., your throttle body opens which causes loss of vacuum and the bypass closes which then allows boost to develope.

Barry you should be ok, as long as you can read boost when you on it, everything is OK.

Sounds like your guage is working fine. I just got a proper boost gauge today(PSI) and might put it in tomorrow at work.
