Brazing help. Any welders on here?
I have my dp clamped to my OEM catback and its leaking a little. I cant tighten the clamps any more so im looking to braze it to seal it up. I've got a handheld mapp tourch laying around and I was wondering if I could use that to braze a lap joint to seal it up. It would have next to no stress on it. Mainly just a seal. What rod should I use? My SS DP has a slit in it could I braze that to seal it also? Another thing can a braze a wideband bung to my DP? I literaly have no money to pay to have this done and its needs to be sealed and quiet asap.
A little late on the reply, but, you'd be much better off with a mig welder spooled with flux core wire. (No need for shielding gas, saves money) Also, I believe you would be hard pressed to generate enough heat from your MAPP torch to braze anything larger than 2" copper, and even that would be a stretch.
DO NOT BRAZE YOU EXHAUST lol. Wtf? The solder will melt. It will never hold up to the vibrations. MIG or TIG it. That is all. I'm a nuclear certified welder with over 30 certifications. Trust me.
Yea you can get Flux - core wire that should work fine. If you REALLY want a good weld get a small bottle of 75% argon 25% CO2. Dual shield weld is super strong weld compared to just a inner shielded wire weld. Or, bring it to me and I'll TIG it for ya lol
Haha awesome. Btw, don't believe people when they say "you don't need shielding gas to weld" that's a load of crap. Put your non shielded weld against mine and I'll make you look inferior. GOOD DAY SIR :-)
