Can a cam or valves squeal ? PLEASE HELP!
 

In a 2.2 L ecotec in a grand am, has anyone ever heard of a high pitched squeak coming from the cam shafts/valves and or head area. There is also excessive valve ticking noise. This problem has caused the engine to stall on 2 occasions. It restarted no problem, but i am afraid to drive it.

I listened with a stethoscope and it sounded like the squeallinfg was coming from the exhust side of the head, maybe the above the number 2 and 3 cylinders.

I noticed some build up/crud on the cam lobe directly under the oil fill cap, but the edges of the lobe were ok, just the middle was bad-looking.

I did a retorque on the camshaft caps with no improvements.

The squeak could be an exhaust leak.. Post a good pic of cam..
