Castrol GTX has been removed from GM's list of approved oils. The move comes after a recent test program conducted by GM to check several of their currently approved oils for compliance with the GM6094M. Look elsewhere for now if you're doing your oil changes with Castrol.
If you didnt know, Castrol has access to no refinerys, and buys everyone elses oils and just mixes them. Sounds great for your car eh?

Since when it castrol shitty? Their conventional was always the best (conventional, not synthetic) its pensoil (not even worth spelling correctly) and queerstate that i had always heard and seen was the worst, you can tell when either one of those was used because of all the engine sludge and ****. Mobil synthetic though, #1 in my book, just didn't forsee castrol being bad.
I think I'm gonna use Redline oil, for my break in period. My dad and I used to use Redline oil in our race car. We even went to there facility and California and went on a tour. Damn, they have some way high tech **** in there. They do like a million tests on their oil, and have labs all over the place making different concoctions of god knows what
Damn good oil though. I say that through experience
about time! castrol is horrible. Honestly, the store brand stuff isn't bad for conventional oils. Costal is one I can think of off the top of my head. not bad stuff if you need to save money. I've seen a few engines, and heard of many, that have had a very early death without any real reasons, poor oil is most likely. i'm glad to see some scientific support to that.
I wouldn't even run their synthetic oil.
VP oils are the best of the best, don't waste your money on royal purple.

I've used nothing but Castrol in all of my vehicles other than the Cobalt. if Castrol is so shitty how does a 280ZX get 280K and still run strong? My 88, Maxima I put that car through pure hell. Ran nothing but Castrol. My 85 300ZX Turbo blew the front main seal. I drove it 4 miles with only a 1/2 quart of Castrol in it. Replaced the seal filled the oil back up with Castrol and guess what? It ran like a champ till i sold it. So with my experience Castrol has been anything but bad.

Those are really impressive numbers, and says a lot about how well nissan builds their engines.
My old 88 Z24 had 150k on it when I sold it, didn't burn a drop of oil and still ran as mint as she did when it was bought brand new some 19 years ago. Family owned since day one. Oil used? Castrol GTX (conventional oil).
I use castrol gtx 20-50. yeah nissan engines are tough little bastards that is for sure.
a post further down on that link....
i work for Castrol and just wanted to provide a quick update on this issue if anyone is interested/concerned.
Castrol is submitting a passing result on this GM test and expects to be reinstated on GM's approved list very shortly.
In the meantime...it was only Castrol GTX 5w-30 that was impacted by this issue.
-The use of GTX 5W-30 does NOT pose any risk to the performance of GM vehicles; GTX 5W30 has a long track record of successful protection and performance in GM vehicles.
-Castrol will continue to guarantee the use of GTX 5W-30 in GM vehicles where this grade is recommended.
Hope this helps address any concerns.
