Check the bottom of your doors!!

I was cleaning my car the other day and i seen that on the bottom of the door where the weather strip meets the door is rubbing the paint of to bare metal.I'm a painter at a body shop so i fixed it myself but thats the first place you will get rust.

Adirondack_Cobalt Apr 30, 2006 08:26 PM

mine's doing the same thing... GM told me its because I have aftermarket wheels and 1 size bigger tires. Same thing for the paint coming off the rockers, both bumpers and the quarter panel.

Those are some tires, no?

My paint is rubbing off the doors onto the weather stripping.

bluecobaltss06 Apr 30, 2006 09:04 PM

I may as well piss on an electric fence for all its doing. The dealership told them that I have aftermarket wheels and tires (the tires are a 215-60-15... stock I think was 195? 205? 60-15) and the wheels are the same offset (?) as factory... I am getting the weenie.

They insist that those BF Goodrich tires are responsible... Maybe its just their paint is cheap, thin and falling off the car? Oh no, that can't be happening...

My weatherstipping's turning yellow too. I'm going to go to Autozone and get some weatherstripping lubricant, hopefully that should help

You should be taking it to the next level, get GM customer service in on it. You will be amazed what a dealer will do for you once they get a phone call. Rim ad tires voiding warrenty, common your getting the shaft.

I keep the painted parts of the insides of my doors waxed fairly regularly... maybe every other time I wax the exterior... haven't seen evidence of any problems yet... but I'll have to check.

hispano1 Mar 4, 2007 12:27 PM

can u put any pics of it? b/c i have the front of my passanger, bottom corner door rubbin on the metal but only when its really cold and wana see if it's that what your talking about.

boostedss26 Jan 12, 2008 06:43 PM

A good way to keep it from rubbin off is 3m makes a clear stone chip tape you can cut a piece as long as the door and put it on. I also did that when i repainted my bottoms

Coblasts Jan 12, 2008 09:34 PM

Use silicon grease (I think they call it dielectric grease)

Silicon grease lightly applied on the weather strip will also keep your doors from freezing shut when you
wash it in the winter.
Do not use any type of petroleum product for this ,because it will swell and degrade your weather strpping.

lsjwannabe Jan 12, 2008 09:36 PM

that sucks

JonyyB Jan 12, 2008 09:45 PM

yep, mie does it :(

LaserBlue07SS Jan 16, 2008 11:01 PM

Mine is going to the body shop under warranty sometime next week. The left front door is chipping away on the upper and lower door edge.

Unfortunately, the car is gone. I traded it in shortly after I made the post for a 2007 SS/SC.
from my understanding, the people that purchased my car from the dealer had to have parts of the car repainted due to the problem. To their credit, they were smart enough to put the stock rims back on the car...

Super_SS Feb 22, 2008 12:22 AM

Viper33884 Feb 22, 2008 01:29 AM

2 years now and no problems, I always clean the doors with Windex and also the weather stripping I apply some ArmourAll so it won't stick.

boostedss26 Feb 23, 2008 10:58 PM

That sucks that you use armour all

Renesis Mar 25, 2008 11:31 AM
