Clicking/Ticking noise 2000rpm

Hi, recently I noticed my 2006 cobalt ss/sc has been making a clicking noise at around 1900rpm. It goes up to over 3000rpm. The noise is made while it's revved but louder while driving. It's not the timing chain as it was replaced after several mecnhiancs told me it was a timing chain.. I'm lost. If anyone could help that'd be awesome. Going to try and get a video of it tomorrow.

Edit: Video.. Starts making it around 8 seconds.

That sounds a lot like a timing chain click.... Maybe the chain is installed incorrectly?

X2 Sounds like a chain issue to me. Was it that same exact noise before you replaced it or has it changed?

Use a stethoscope or long a screwdriver (rubber handle preferred for comfort) ...Put the metal tip against the motor and rubber part against your ear move it all over the engine to determine where the sound your hearing is coming from..

Video is hard to tell, ....I would say start at chain area and listen, If nothing i would say the valves or lifter or somewhere in the head.<<<These are common issue and could cut time in half.

If you have a long enough screwdriver this doesn't cost and dime, Just some of your time.

Keep us posted.

Thanks for the replys guys.. Yes its the same exact noise as before. Had three mechanics from different shops tell me it was a timing chain before i got it replaced. So I'm really lost. I know about the tensioner going but I went and replaced the whole chain as the car has 112k. I also thought maybe it was installed wrong but didnt really consider it a possibility.

I'll try and listen with a screwdriver later tonight. Just wish I could know what the hell it was lol.

What do you think the chances of that are? Most timing chains I've heard make the noise without any revving at all. Or am I wrong?

Did you just replace the chain? Or the entire timing assembly? (Guides tensioner cam gears)
