Cobalt SS 2.4 won't start, wire issue/BCM
Hello all,
I had an issue with my safety button on my automatic shifter and had to remove it to fix it. When I was putting the last nut on to secure the shifter, I noticed a burning smell; I looked down and saw smoke. The dome light turned off, windows stopped working, brake lights stopped working etc. Headlights still worked, as well as the third brake light and dash lights. I had pinched a red wire with a black stripe on it in a thick bundle of wires running on the passenger side of the shifter, which I traced back to the BCM. I also can't get a connection to the OBD2 port when I hook a scanner to it.
So, I'm stuck at this point and am not sure what to do next; the car won't even turn over, the anti theft light is on, power steering notification is on, traction control light is on and a few others. I checked all fuses and they are fine. The only thing I can think of is to remove the center console, fix the wire and pray to God it isn't a fried body control module (BCM). Anyone have any thoughts on this issue?
Thank you in advance,
Jesse

That would be helpful haha. I tried to figure out what the red and black wire is for, but all of the diagrams I saw online going to the BCM had no red and black wire listed. I just fixed a ton of stuff on this car and was one flipping nut away from being done and now the thing won't start because of one pinched little wire.
Hey, while we are talking about fuses though, is there any specific fuses I should check? I went through them once, but it wouldn't hurt anything to look again as long as I know any particular issue fuses to look out for.

Thank you for the diagram that is awesome! My car is at my dads shop a few hours from me, but I'll send him this so he can check it and I'll give an update as soon as I hear back from him. Any other fuses to check if that isn't blown? I'm hoping that by fixing the wire it will go back to normal, but I'm thinking it had to have blown a fuse somewhere because of the smoke coming from where the nut was touching the wire and the dome light turning off right after.

With the fuse out there is power on the front blade, with the fuse in, there is power on both.

Thank you guys for all of the helpful posts! As of tonight, the new 50 amp fuse went in and it started up with no issues I had just finished replacing the crankshaft seal, serpentine belt, front outer tie rod ends, headers/exhaust manifold that was cracked (replaced with a stainless steel one instead of cast iron,) fixed key stuck in ignition issue (small metal clip inside shifter,) replaced broken turn signal stalk, installing new Akkon brand black projector headlights, k2 motor tail lights and painting the wheels etc. before I blew that fuse. So, needless to say, I am very happy to finally get this thing back on the road.
Thanks again,
Cheers!
