Engine Change
Engine Change
Hello Forum
I'm trying to help someone get his car fixed and we have concluded that he will need to change out his engine.
Broken Rocker arms and piston damage are the reason.
He has an '05 Cobalt SS turbo
My question to the forum is:
Will using a Vin F 8th digit engine work? Or will I need to search for one out of a car that has the Vin P in the 8th digit.
I was going to buy a engine out of a wrecked vehicle.
Everything else appears to be ok, turbo, exhaust manifold and other engine components like starter , alternator, power steering pump etc.
Want to put it all back to Factory Stock.
Any hep you guys can give me will be greatly appreciated ..I know nothing about these Hot Rod Cobalts.. I am a Ford Diesel guy.. Who likes stock and nothing fancy

there never was a 2005 ss turbo. 2005-2007 ss was supercharged, 2008-2010 was turbo. what you have thre is a cobalt ss supercharged that has been turbo swapped.
if it needs an engine you will need to get a 2004-2007 lsj vin P (the 2.0l supercharged) and swap the turbo components onto it. if you want to put the car back to stock your going to need all the supercharger components, exhaust manifold, etc. as well as find someone to flash a stock tune into the computer. your best bet is to just keep the turbo.

I am terribly sorry... Yes this Cobalt is Supercharged.. My diesel is turbo charged . Sorry for the error
What I am asking is will the engine out of a car that is NOT supercharged work in one that has the supercharger. Will the supercharger bolt back up on the new engine and all the other things that come on a supercharged engine?

no the vin f engine (2.2l) will not work. everything will bolt in just fine, but the engine management system is completely different between the 2 engines. different crank trigger wheels, different ignition system, and the 2.2 has no cam sensor.
you need the 2.0l vin p engine. they come from 2005-2007 cobalts and 2004-2007 saturn ion redlines. if you are unable to get one the other option if getting the engine from a 2003+ saab 9-3 turbo, known as a b207 engine. they are very close to the same engine with some minor differences, it will bolt in and function just like factory.
