my CEL cherry has been popped...

After reversing quite quickly early this evening I noticed a CEL.



I stopped.. Turned the car off for a moment, checked the gas cap. It's good.
Turned it back on.

I still have a CEL.

I do not have the code, so before you all start flaming me. WITHOUT THE CODE WE CANT HELP

I Understand that.
I will get the code read ASAP!

Car runs normally, sounds normal, pulls just as hard as before
Currently all that I have installed is Headers, Downpipe, Exhaust, and Intake, 93 gas.

Nothing new recently has been added or changed.


Here are a couple videos I took of the engine sound tonight, sounds a little strange in the first video but it goes away.


THen on the second video ,right before the rev it makes a strange noise..

Not sure if this is normal or not.. but I'm starting to get very paranoid..



any and all help will be greatly appreciated

Lol all the time going into shooting videos, uploading to youtube, then making a thread...

Why not go to an autozone (or a local equivelant) and just see what the damn code is <3

With that said, I'm assuming your not tuned? If not a CEL is no surprise.

the weather is constantly changing but
today's weather was the same as it has been for the past week.

nothing out of the ordinary, maybe a couple degrees warmer.


I'm thinking maybe the sensor on the DP came loose... I'll be able to check tomorrow or this weekend.

when you get home keep me updated on your tuning situation bro. i can almost guarentee its a p0171 or p0172..... maybe even a p0420ish code

Maybe i'll end up buying hptuners in the future as well

p0171, p0172 are rich and lean codes, prob caused from the intake or the downpipe, and then the p0420 is a cat code, rear 02 effiecinecy

btw you should never orered the canned tune if you were gonna tune the car. Unless you dont care about spending extra money

The whole time I was reading this thread I figured this was going to come up. As high flow cats get older they can throw CEL's the same way if you don't have a cat.

I went to go get my code scanned yesterday.

The douche at the auto skills center plugs in the computer.. Clicks Clear codes.
After I repeatedly told him I just wanted the code.


CEL is off, and hasn't came back on yet..

CEL is off, and hasn't came back on yet..
Trust me the code will return until you get the rear o2 sensor disabled when you get your car tuned. I had the same problem when I installed my highflow cat/downpipe. I t was good for about a week then the cel came on. Plus the tune will make your car run better overall and like others have said a canned tune for the lsj is not good you need a custom tune to dial everything in correctly and get a wideband as well.

In the first video it almost sounds like the timing chain slaps around a few times ....especially at the very beginning . It might be time for a new tensioner if it hasn't been replaced with the newer revised one gm came out with.

The click right before you rev it.... might be the slack being taken up in the timing chain its self. Just an idea as im not an all knowing LSJ god 8)

i'll clean up the tb tomorrow and i'll check the tensioner
i have a new one from zzp but i'm not sure if that's the same thing.

a wideband is next on my list of things to buy, that and an interceptor to further monitor my car.

install is tomorrow for the rest of my parts!

I just threw a p0420 yesterday, installed a different dp with high flow cat about 2 months ago, do you think this is what it is? If so do I have anything to worry about?

It was my 02 sensor, the dp threw the code.
the tune cleared it

Yep.... P0420 is Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold. It's nothing to worry about . It doesn't control anything that would effect performance ..... it's basically a Cat converter baby sitter. As your new Hi flow cat gets more and more miles on it ....the code might go away on its own .

If your sick of looking at the light in the dash ..... disconnect your battery for few minutes and it will clear it ....... maybe it will take a couple of months to come back again.
