HELP! There is no oil on the dipstick

I just changed my oil, put almost 6L of Mobile1 in and there is no oil on the dipstick.

I am on a flat surface and I let the car run for about 2 min, but nothing.

I took the car for a 5 min drive, got home and there was oil on the dipstick, wipped it off and checked it again, NO OIL.

I have done all the oil changes on this car, always added this much oil, and this is the first time I have seen this.

Drained just about 5L out of it.

Any Ideas?

just put 6 and a half quarts and dont worry about it , oil rises when you go WOT. i use to have that problem and i kept putting oil in the car until it red on the dipstick , and everytime i went WOT i would blow out the dipstick and mess up my engine bay . I CHAnged the dipstick , did compression test all that crap and found out i was putting too much oil in the car i started putting in 6 and a half quarts like they said and never had the problem again.

the correct time to check the level of the oil is about 5 mins after you shut the engine off. if u shut the car off and immediatly checked your oil your reading wont be correct.

so this cobalt uses 6 & a ˝ quarts of Mobil 1 oil?
Is this the same on the 08/09 tc/ss cobalt? 6 quarts?
If YES wholly **** does this little thing take a lot of oil, does the non-SS's take that much oil?
My beretta only uses 4 quarts & fill the oil filter. 5/30 Mobil oil

My SS is thirstier than most. It ALWAYS without question takes 7 quarts. I have no clue what it does with that extra 1/2 quart, but it's been like this from day 1.

when the car is running, or running recently, the oil is circulating so it's not all in the pan. best bet is to check when it's totally cool, and all the oil is in the pan. next time check the level BEFORE You drive.

Same here.. mine takes an even 6 qts. When I check the level its right in the middle between min and max on the dipstick.

but what your not accounting for is the little bit of oil that stays in the area around the oil filter and in the oil lines...

It's official, I have a freak. 6 quarts won't even register on the dipstick. 6.5 quarts MIGHT....and I mean MIGHT on a really warm day when the stars are aligned just right....put a tiny little dab of oil on the tip of the dipstick. 7 quarts even puts it just above the min line.

I would check the length of your dipstick and make sure that your car has the right one.

The LSJ, does drink oil. It's happened to me and in the begining I was wondering the samething as to why the oil dipstick doesn't show any oil. Put in 6.5 quarts and you'll be just fine

Nope it's the right one. LOL must be yet another freakish 05 thing.

As far as drinking oil, mine doesn't go through oil at all between oil changes. It'll still read exactly the same when I change it as it did when I filled it.

my 05 always takes a little extra too. and same thing, doesn't go down even a hair between changes.
