keyless entry is broke!

well my keyless entry is officially non-functional. it was acting up for a few months; as in sometimes it would unlock/lock the doors, and sometimes it wouldnt. its annoying cuz everytime i have to get in my car and unlock it with the key, the alarm starts to go off until i start the car!!!

when it first stopped working two days ago, i thought, ok no big deal, ill just go up to autozone and get a new battery for it. when i got to autozone, they had this neat little thing that tests the battery in you FOB, so i tested mine and it worked. i said hmm, i guess ill have to go to the dealership sometime next week.. well today, i talked to a friend of mine, and he said, "just try buying a new battery anyways, you never know". so i went back to autozone, spent 5 bux on a damn battery, and sure enough, it still doesnt work.

has anyone else had this happen to them? what do you think it could be if it isnt the batter in the FOB?

p.s. im outta warrenty cuz im at 43,000 so this wont be covered under warrenty!!!! which means ill prolly get raped when i go to the stealership.

I always wonder why the dealership does that with used cars. Im pretty sure the previous owner didn't want to keep the other fob as a souvenir.

Not sure either. We have a lot of them leftover from used cars. The dumbest part is that they'll still have the car in the system and wrote up for an inspection. So, that puts me or any other tech in the parking lot wandering around and wondering what happened to the car while pressing the panic button. It's happened to me at least 4 times within the past month. "Oh, oh yeah! We sold that car over the weekend."

At that point you just tell them to DIAF.

Could be what the last guy said, or it could be the receiver in the car, or it could be the BCM. When my BCM went (the first time ), the fobs got weaker and weaker until they completely stopped working altogether.

but at autozone it tested alright.....

my guess it would be the remote control door lock reciever (rcdlr) my moms trailblazer has that problem so i have to find one =\ sorry but i think your **** out of luck.

if its the rcdlr, i dont know where it is on the cobalt but on a impala it pays 2.2 warranty so they may charge you less

p.s. get some lube

I have this problem randomly and so do many other members on here.

My problem was: trying to unlock or lock the doors. Sometimes the drivers side door would not unlock or lock even though you can hear the internals in the door working. The passenger side lock always works without fail.

Solution: Many of us have discovered that if you press the lock then unlock buttons back-n-forth for 4 or 5 times it will all of a sudden magically work again.

I'm not sure what causes this issue but it's an easy fix.

Another weird issue that crops up sometimes is the cruise control will become unavailabe every once in a while. I go to set my cruise and it won't do anything. That fix is to disconnect the battery for 15 minutes.

yea i tried the lock key thing. it didnt work. as long as nothing comes up, im planning on going to the dealership tomorrow afternoon after i get off of work. so we'll see how much they want to charge me to fix it.

edit: im wondering if me going to get an aftermarket automatic car starter would solve this problem... because if im right, they have to program that auto-starter FOB so that it will work with your car... ne1 have ne idea if that might work?

well if your car is still under warranty then the dealership should fix it for free. right?

but yeah, a remote start i would think should resolve the issue. if you want to be sure you should call a local remote start install shop to find out.

edit: i have a number to a place here in pittsburgh if you want to call them to ask...

well pittsburgh wouldnt work too well seeing as how i live close to detroit, michigan. lol but i know of a few different places in my area that do auto-starter installs. i could prolly just call up a best buy to since they do all that stuff too.

and im outta warrenty (im at 43,000 miles), so it wouldnt be covered. HOWEVER, when i was under warrenty, this same problem happened (around 33,000 miles) and they did fix it for me then. so i could use the whole "you didnt do it right the first time" approach if they want to rape me on this.

try it, theres no harm in trying. if it doesnt work, get ready to pay ALOT of money. it cost my cousin 470$ for a new keyfob for her limited edition mx5. and it wasnt even the fancy keyless unlock/entry/starter fob, just the regular kind. but it wasnt under warranty.
