loud tapping noise?

I have a 07 lt, it has about 3,600 miles on it.

The probelem im having is a loud tapping noise coming from tha rear of my car, its almost like someone is tapping my trunk trying to get my attention. My daily routine is i start my car and let the coolant temp get to 100 degrees then start driving. Usually before im too far out of my neighborhood i hear the noise. Which is maybe 5 minutes. The noise happens wheather im moving or not.

I just wanted to know if anybody else had experienced this, and what it was. Im already planning on dropping the car off at the dealership due to a few other probelems, so i will tell them about this too.

I also have the GMPP exhaust, maybe its kinda moving as it heats up, im not sure, or maybe fuel pump related.

Any help is welcome.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
A noise may be heard from the rear of vehicle; typically 3-5 knocks during initial cold start. The noise may sound like someone outside of the vehicle is tapping on the back window or on the rear exterior body panels.

Recommendation/Instructions:
This noise is from the vehicle's EVAP canister vent solenoid going through the diagnostic cleaning cycle, which is part of the software calibration set-up. Replacing the EVAP canister may not resolve the issue when the vehicle is re-exposed to a cold start. No parts should be replaced. This should be considered a normal condition for 2007 and previous model years.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed

It's that annoying homeless guy sleeping in your trunk again!

WhiteSSBalt 12-16-2007 02:49 PM

Ah.....I remember when my '07 had 3,600 miles on it. Probally at the end of the 1st month of owning it.

Im up to 37k now. Gonna try to retire it from daily driving duties by the end of the year and pick up a beater.

People always ask me "how do you put so many miles on your car?". I live within driving distance of DC. DC = good jobs.
