To correct you Italianjoe, Even the newest style is internally the same and DOES need to be set to be installed properly. The internal locking mechanism and the setting procedure is identical. I'm sure of this as I just did it with a revised tensioner.

The LNF style cannot be set/released. Maybe the older ones are still being sold.

Sorry man, but they can... and need to be set. Take one apart and see for yourself. As I said I am 100% sure of this. Well respected members like you need to stop spreading misinformation about this subject as it is very important. No offense meant, so I hope none is taken.

Take it apart? You mean pull the snap-ring out?

Yes sir, you'll see what I'm talking about, and trust me, there's nothing you can break or mess up besides that snap ring!

Now i'm curious lol. Pretty sure I have one left over somewhere in the garage, i'm gonna pull it apart and see. Although, out of all the ones I've put in without having to pop them, not one has given an issue or made noise. Guess i'm doing something right.

ok everyone, it wound up being the flex pipe. at first it was so quiet and sounded like it was right at the engine (which it basically was lol) but i didn't think it sounded like an exhaust leak (im used to deeper sounds for those) but by the other day it was incredibly loud, sounded like a subaru with no exhaust lmao... dealer replaced it for free cuz the flex pipes connected to the cat under 8 yr warranty! saved me a cool $900 *shwew*

Was the sound like a clicking, kinda like zzzzzzzzzzzz under acceleration?
I get that noise only under acceleration and it comes from the passenger side of the car.

I've narrowed it down to the timing chain tensioner, and now possibly flex pipe, if your sound is the same.

If I can be of any assistance, even if it’s simply looking into recall or warranty information for specific vehicles, please private message me.

I know this is a dated thread but I've just come looking for the topic
I too had a similar experience with a ticking /clattering noise .
upon inspection I found that the front timing chain guide has 2 bolts and the upper of the 2 had backed itself out and was riding against the inspection plug and I'm guessing on a hard shift it snapped and cocked sideways and was stuck (thank god) and was rubbing the chain and plug and drove it this way for two days before I parked it for disassembly .

Same one backed off on my old car, sounded like a valve/lifter tick. It rounded out the threads in the hole and I had to use a heli-coil to be able to re-install the guide.
