Man am I STUPID!!!!!
Had the broken roll pin experience on my way home from work the other night after a very long (14 hr) day. I was sitting at a light across from the airport in heavy traffic with the sun going down. When the light changed, all gears were neutral. A couple of guys helped push me onto a side street. Luckily the guy I got the car from warned me about this and had put a box full of hitch pins, cotter pins and ROLL pins in the glove box. I got the fuse box loose, atuck my hand under and felt the bent one sticking out. After an hour of wiggling, cussing and arfing up the back of my hand I was on my way......for a quarter mile....It seems there were two barely different sizes and the one I put in sheared off and I was now stuck in 2nd gear. Pulled off in a gas station and stuck my hand under again but couldn't get broken roll pin out or bigger one in and it was lights out at the gas station in half an hour. Got a tow home.
Next night after work I disconnected the battery and took apart the fuse box, etc. But i forgot to check if the key worked for the trunk. It doesn't. Ok I'll just drop the back seats. Wrong again. Put fuse box back together and hooked a battery to jump points. Nada! Can't quite reach the end of release cable sticking my arm between seats.Any suggestions? How does release mechanism work? Can I maybe push it back with a long screwdriver or am I screwed?!? |
Both of my seats fold down? I guess I thought yours would too.

..
He just cant reach the release levers. You have to pop the trunk to get to them. A long rod and a flashlight, and maybe a block of wood to prop the rear seat portion so you can pry it out some to get the rod in will work. Patience. Then you can reach in and pull the emergency trunk release

My bad, I looked and apparently I pulled the levers on both seat at some point, and didn't relook them in place. Both were able to move.
Those levers are pretty small. |
Thanx for responding. Been giving everything a try after work. Tried long screwdriver and can feel the latches but they're not moving. Not sure just where the emergency trunk release is to try and grab that with a real coat hanger. Fot bottom of rear seat out but can quit find a way to release seat backs. Going to a u pull it today to see how they actually look and work. Will probably have to break into a trunk there (better to find out what just ruins stuff there) but maybe I can go through a bach up light or something. Or actually see a way to release the seats from inside. Never used the releases so I'm just guessing how they work.

Starting to really miss motorcycles. Much simpler. If I didn't really like this car......... BTW does the trunk take a separate key or is my ignition key supposed to unlick it?
Should be the same key, unless one or the other was replaced and not keyed to match.
Don't really know any history on this car. Guy i got it from bought it off a buddy who'd have it a few years but he only had it for about 2. Wondering if maybe trunk was swapped out. Or maybe lock is just froze. Hit it with PBblaster but it didn't help
Latch for the trunk is right below the 3rd break light. Should be keyed the same. The button in the little dash cubby hole doesn't work either? So key, button in dash, and remote do not work?
yea the trunk and drivers door are supposed to be keyed the same as the ignition. ive read countless stories of them not matching after gm did the recall. the dealers were supposed to order the ignition cylinder by vin number so it would be keyed the same as the rest of the car, but mistakes happened and left a pile of cars without trunk/door keys.

Trunk button not working because battery is unhooked. That's the stupid part. Unhooked it without checking lock first and i had assumed seat release was in passenger area
So once again assume made an ass oit of me. On way to u pull it. Gonna see how release actually works and probably try to find a decent back up light or third brake light to replace whatever i end up demolishing
Iirc the back up light would give you the most access. I can go take a look at my trunk in a bit I dont recall off hand to let you know which you want to remove (drivers vs passengers)
Another way would be to get a hold of the rear seat release cable and put it till it breaks the tab that's holding it. And just pull it out between the two seats and should release the back seat so you can open the trunk with the other release
Leaving u pull it. Seems like i might be able to grab the emd of the release cable for the seat with some very long handled bent tip meedle nose and pop it free so I can pull it between seats. Thrn hopefully I'm in. Also picked up a decent looking rear spoiler that matches since mine is missing. They didn't have any ss there though so its the flat one.
Twisted on latch end of cable with long handled needle nose to pop it off and pull it forward and actually managed to release the seat instead. Still pulling them of to relocate them inside passenger area. So trunk is now open. Got all my work stuff out. Bow back to oringinal problems: removing broken roll pin and determining if the lack of side to side movement of shifter is a cable problem!

Nice!
