No supercharger coolant.

So, I just got my car like 2 months ago. Never really bothered checking the coolant on the s/c til now... apparently there is none running through it. It's as dry as your grandmother's vagina. And one of the cables (the one on the top) is not hooked up to anything. Is that normal? lol

And could there be damage if I've been running it dry the past couple months? =/

Might be bad for the pump. Get some water in there and see if it circulates. If it doesnt then you have a bad pump.

Can you get a picture of the top cable deal youre talking about?

^this. That coolant runs through the manifold to cool the air down after the sc, no coolant means hot air so it's probably way down on power.

There should be a hose at the top of the filler neck that is only a couple inches long that leads to nothing. Thats normal, it acts as a bleeder/run-off, kind of.

Edit: Here is a picture of what I was talking about. Is this what you were talking about?

A little explanation so you understand.

S/C creates a lot of heat. The cores in the intake manifold have water circulating through them (yours is empty). When it gets too hot the computer takes away timing due to the temp and/or knock retard showing up.

Click on gallery up top, then upload which will be on the right under your name, then browse to find the pics you want, select a category and click submit. Then to post in here, click on post reply, then the 5th icon from the left right above where you type will say insert image, copy the direct link from your pic after it is uploaded and paste in that box. Best to have 2 tabs open to do that

Then you don't have to worry about that one. Just add some coolant or water to see if the pump is working. If it isn't, hit it with a hammer to kinda kick start it which might make it last for a little bit but you will end up having to buy a new pump

That coolant had to go somewhere ...... might have a leak in the system. I havent heard of one that got hot enough to push the coolant out of the overflow but i guess its possible.

EDIT: WOW...... I cant even imagine what caused that. damn

What do I even do with this? There's literally solid chunks of stuff down in there.

Any chance of damage to the supercharger from running it dry like this for.... couple months or god knows how long.

I would try and flush it ...... but I remember people had trouble getting the air our of the stock setup ..... or if the heat exchanger is full of **** you might want to find someone selling their old stocker or upgrade it with an aftermarket piece.

I remember the M62 setup GM had for the cavalier didnt have an intercooler so I think the blower can survive it but prolly not good for it 8). I would do an oil change on it if it was me.

Coolant makes "crusties" like that normally when it dries up, pour a little water into the cap and see if it dissolves the crusties. If it does fill up your system and find that probable leak. If it doesn't you could pull off the intake and heat exchanger goodies and flush it all. Just my .02$ I've seen that crusty stuff before in my mopeds cooling system and if I recall correctly it dissolved in water. Definatly get it figured out its no good driving it when the engine is half retarded.

I'm already buying the ZZP S3 HE. So there's that...
And I just had an oil change done like two weeks ago. I thought they were supposed to check all the fluids when they do an oil change. Apparently not...

Thanks, I'll see if it dissolves.

They don't check the oil in the SC. your SC is fine being ran with no coolant. The coolant only runs through the intake manifold, not the supercharger.Fill it up,look for leaks, and make sure the pump still works. The pumps tend to burn up being ran dry.

Yeah.... I was talking about the SC oil..... If your worried about it or the car has high milege ...it might be worth changing . I'm not sure the change in operating temp is enough to effect the blower but I'm over cautious with my cars.

The Jbody M62 kits are unintercooled so it's fine being ran dry.Only the IAT's go up.

Running no coolant won't affect the blower at all. It will run at the same temp intercooled or not. It's the air being pumped through the intake manifold that will have the difference. Non intercooled it will just be hot and kill performance but as long as you don't go trying to do WOT pulls with the IC system dry, you won't have any problems arise from this
