non-Cobalt wheel bearing qestion

My girlfriends cars wheel bearing is starting to go. Were getting that hight pitched grinding noise and it has already been diagnosed. Were planning on having it repaired asap, possibly Sunday. Could anyone tell me what happens when it actually does go?

well in my case the wheel bearing as going on my tracker (never have 35" tires on a IFS setup)
and it got to the point where you could not drive it.
Pulled the truck over everything was all fine, i went to pull the truck a few inches further off the road and the rim ripped right off bearing and all... apparently the only thing holding it on for the last mile or so was the break calliper and caliper mounting bracket...
FUNNY AS SHIT (but not safe)

I was afraid of this. Of the wheel coming off and all. Were going to drive the car over to the shop real slow. like no higher than 30mph. Alot of the roads are 55mph zones so we'll put flashers on and piss people off

We got this fixed. 105 for the part (has abs sensor built in) and had a friend install for $25. The old one was very hard to turn and very gritty feeling when you turned it. I expect a slight gas mileage increase due to the less resistance and friction with the new bearing
