Porformence Problems

I have a 05 cobalt ss with 107000 miles and i just bought the car i went to Autozone to get is scanned cause the engine light was on and the codes that they read were
P0603- control module long term memory rest
P0017- crank shaft position senor
And im not sure if these code have anything to do with the car not allowing me to pass 80 mph because when im on the freeway and about to hit 80 the car starts to lose all of its power and i can press the gas pedal all the way down and it wont do anything and then it starts to say engine reduced power. Also im not sure if the guy tuned it or not cause i am pushing more than 12 psi like around 15 or 17psi please help dont be harsh im just a noob. Thank you

Can't change the boost pressure with a tune on supercharged Cobalts. Only way to increase boost pressure is to change to smaller pulley on supercharger or introduce exhaust restriction. Post a picture up of your supercharger pulley and we should be able to tell if it is stock or not. If you have stock pulley and are pushing that much boost it isn't good and you may have a clogged cat.

People will have to chim in on the codes. P0017 fault can be enough to cause reduced performance on it's own though I don't know what the common associated failures are.

Ok and what about it not letting me pass 80 mph and my gas gauge if flip if that give a hint on whats going on witg my car

jdbaugh1 11-09-2018 10:38 AM

Not sure what you are trying to say about the gas gauge but if your crank trigger isn't working correctly your ECU could go into reduced engine power just because of that. Could just be a bad ground, bad sensor, ECU or other things which people more knowledgeable with that code may be able to better help you with.

wait, do you mean the gas gauge works backwards? as in when you fill the tank the gauge shows empty and when the tank is empty it reads full? that would be what happens when you put a 2006 or 2007 ecm in a 2005 car.

Luis Batres 11-10-2018 12:11 AM

I have already bought a new crankshaft position sensor and put it on but after a while it came back on and yes to the gas gauge and how would i know if i have a differnt ecu/pcm?

Sharkey 11-10-2018 12:37 AM

in 2006 gm changed the way the fuel sending unit works, it works in reverse of the 2005 car. when you swap the pcm between a between a 2005 and a 2006+ car the fuel gauge works in reverse. you dont really need to look further into if its been swapped, its obvious that it has if the fuel gauge works backwards.

check your blower pulley, see if its a press on pulley or if it has bolts in the front of it, and maybe a size. also check the injectors, if they are green and silver they are stock, if they are black and silver the are likely gm stage 2 42lb, and if they are all black they are 60lb or 80lb. knowing these things will give us an idea of whats been done. its likely not related to the problem but still can be helpful.

so it has a stock pulley and stock injectors. seeing how much boost your making you likely have a clogged cat

Luis Batres 11-10-2018 05:30 PM

How would i unclog the cat

Sharkey 11-10-2018 05:44 PM

by replacing it

Luis Batres 11-10-2018 08:40 PM

Can i just gut the cat?

Luis Batres 11-11-2018 02:38 PM

Also what are somethings that will happen to my car to know for sure that it is the cat and what are something that will make my boost be so hight with a stock pulley and injectors?

jdbaugh1 11-12-2018 08:43 AM

Remove the cat section and try to shine light through it

Luis Batres 11-30-2018 11:16 PM

Ok i gutted the cat and it is doing same thing.
It only lets me rev it to 4000rpm and i lose all power when im i have foot all the way down on the pedal but still moves at a constant speed with the boost rising only no power

jdbaugh1 12-03-2018 07:45 AM

Doesn't the boost meter rely on the MAP sensor? Could it possibly be reading wrong? I don't know if that is likely or not just throwing out ideas.

steelmesh 12-03-2018 11:26 AM

Maybe the P0017 is caused by a timing chain issue like a worn tensioner or skipped timing gear teeth.

Luis Batres 12-03-2018 01:19 PM

The p0017 was the cam senor which i already fixed
But can it be my bypass valve? And it started to make a whistling sound now

Luis Batres 12-03-2018 01:21 PM

Can it be that my bypass it not opening open ?

armcclure 12-03-2018 01:39 PM

jumped cam timing can cause high boost also, and would correlate with the p0017

thejoey12 12-03-2018 01:54 PM

you may have fixed the cam sensor, but did you get the timing all lined up? i had this happen to me a few years ago and ended up bending a valve and blowing cylinder 3 out.
