Possible coolant leak locations
Possible coolant leak locations
Hey gang, just looking for a list of possibilities as to where coolant could be leaking from on the rear or passenger side of 2009 Cobalt SS with a turbo 2.0 LNF? I put on a new head and timing set, it's running fine but I have a pretty constant drip of coolant coming from somewhere back there and have located it yet.
I looked for a diagram of coolant lines, freeze plugs, internal coolant journals but I couldn't find one. Just trying to have a good checklist of things to check.

I got under the car today and tried to find the leak. I thought maybe I didn't tighten the bolt that goes through the timing cover and out the back of the pump but I cranked it down and that's not the problem.
I can't see where the leak is actually coming from, I think it's on top of the water pump or just above it. Is there something around there i could have damaged when I remover the head/manifold?

Just to close out this thread, I found the leak. I recently removed the timing cover to replace the timing chain and that required the removal of the two front water pump bolts. That must have allowed the water pump gasket to fail an leak. Rather than just replacing the seal I went ahead and popped in a new pump and thermostat since I was in the neighborhood.
My advice, if you're going to the trouble of replacing a timing set, go ahead and put on a new water pump and all of that stuff while you've got the car taken apart, keep that engine young.
