Power Cut-off above 4000 RPM
Power Cut-off above 4000 RPM
I started to look around the forums but found there were way too many to find this specific problem.
Only when it rains does this happen. I'm driving a 2006 Cobalt SS/SC, and if I'm accelerating either easily or really coming on to it, it does the same, when it reaches that 4000rpm mark, there is like 0 momentum, the power just stops, until it drops under 4000rpm, now this is in 1st , 2nd, 3rd. Basically that's it because all you other balt drivers know by 4000 rpm your already crusing in 3rd.
So it's just like it's starving for fuel, Car don't shut off or anything, the power just cuts to nothing, and if you leave the gas down, it becomes violent and starts thrusting the vehicle. ( Like that annyoing friend who keeps hitting the gas and letting it off so you are lunging back and forth in your seat.)
Any comments, help me. Remember this only does this when it rains... and I'm not too familar with under the hood of my balt...
Sometimes if it is raining and it begins to do this, sometimes it stops once I shut the car off and start it up again HELP!!

Dude i had a similar problem, it rained real hard last nite the entire night and i had to go threw some shallow puddles, maybe like 6 or 7 inches, and i was in second gear at the time so i stepped on the gas and went into boost and the car bogged. It freaked me out. It did it this morning to and when i started my car my rpms were a little jumpy for a few seconds then it was fine. I dk but im scared to go into boost.
It's not the RPM.
You have an intake don't you? And probably a Dry Flow one.
You are bogging and bucking because water is getting sucked in your intake and getting on your MAF. Your computer shuts down so it doesn't suck water into the engine. Switch to an oil based intake like K&N. If you already have an oil based one, look into getting a hydro shield or doing the stock intake box mod.
it's not the puddles.
look in your sig......the part that says AEM.....yeah there's your problem. I used to have one too. Dry flow means no oil. Oil repels water. I put a K&N filter on my AEM tube and incorporated an airbox mod. Haven't had a problem since. I can gun it in the rain. I got on it today and it's been raining the past 4 days!!!

I'd put money on you getting a wet filter. Mine did it since I put my k&n typhoon on. I had to rig up a plastic cover to go around the filter, only thing that worked. Water can seep in through the headlight, through the splash guard if it isn't sealed right, and runs down the hole where the intake enters the fender well.
I had a hydoshield, didn't do ****. Water just runs down that hole, down the intake pipe, and got under the hydroshield. Don't bother with one.
Your filter gets damp, when you get on it, not just at 4k, water hits the maf and pegs it. I have a log when my car did it. Maf pegged at like 4500, IDC hit 100%. Just floods the motor with fuel.
I'm sure the oiled filter helps, but if you did the airbox mod, you probably have some sort of cover over the filter. That helps, a lot.
I lost some whine, but it doesn't get wet any more.

The hydroshield is essentially a sock that covers the entire filter. If water is getting underneath it, you put it on wrong. I can't tell if it helped mine or not, but I have never had issues while driving in the rain. (then again I don't gun it either, because that's just a bad idea)

Well for 1, you have a redline, so your intake is completely different.
2, read what I said about how the filter gets wet. The hydroshield/condom does not completely seal the top of the filter, where the elastic is. When my filter got wet I took it off, with the hydroshield still on, and there was water inside it.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one with this problem. Mine happens only on rainy days too. However, it's only when I'm going to work. That is a 26-27 mile drive, about 95% freeway or highway. However, I'm only experiencing on the interstate when I'm going uphill with the cruise control on. Did it today too, and it was snowing. I have the Injen CAI and filter along with the Aqua shield installed. I always took off the shield when the weather got warmer and put it on when the weather gets colder. When I put it on a few weeks ago there were no defects in it. Where can I get a plastic guard of some sort? Does anybody make one, or want to make one for a little money? The really weird thing is that this is the first year this has happened. I've had the intake long enough to have gone through 2 winters with no problems. This is the first year.
I have exactly the same problem, my car is stock.
2005 Cobalt SS/SC (74000km)
The problem started after my dealer changed my air filter cuz they told me it was time to change it.
The second i left the dealership i knew that something was wrong.
Since that, they replaced MAF Sensor, Oxygen Sensor, Cleared codes, Re-flashed Computer, they told me that a vacuum hose was "jammed" somewhere, so they "fixed" that.
I'm still having the exact same problem. Now they are telling me that the problem is the fuel filter, that i need to change it and pay for it... and.. that piece is B/O in canada !!
I've had that problem for two months and still going...... I'm waiting for that fuel filter......... I'm very tired of that dealership !!!

I'm due to change my fuel filter too. Wonder if this could be a solution. I've already pulled the throttlebody and cleaned it thinking the problem could have been very similar to the stage 2 limp home problem.
I would like to change my dealer but there is not a lot of GM dealers where I am. The next one is at 30mins of car, it is not very practical when you work 8 to 5
And since they caused that problem.. if I go to another dealer they won't want to pay !
I'm waiting... :|
