Rear window defroster connectors ripped off...

Some douchebag at this audio installation place I got my new 6x9's installed ripped off one of the connectors for my rear window defroster. I just realized this when i was cleaning my car the other day. Anyways, it looks like it needs to be solderd back on. How much would that roughly cost to do(at a dealership)? Im not doing it myself because I could F*** something up. I've heard window places can do it for you also. But id rather get it done where I bought my car. Any feedback would help, thnx!

You cannot sodder it back on. You must replace the back glass. I see this a lot at my shop, but all of the "fixes" out there are temporary and usually do not work. The only way to get those tabs is to purchase the entire back glass. Do not order the glass from Gm. IT is too expensive. Contact a glass company and they can get you an aftermarket one for about half the cost of a GM glass. You would not be able to tell the difference. Soddering will not work because applying extreme heat to tempered glass will cause it to crack and in some cases explode.

Well I have yet to go into my dealership to see what can be done, I will be this Tuesday. You're saying the entire back window has to be replaced just because of the little connector? That sounds kind of extreme to me...

I know it sounds a bit extreme, but that is what must be done if the connector that is attatched to the glass itself is damaged or removed. There is no other way on most cases. They will probably tell you the same thing when you go to the dealer. Let me know how it turns out.

I'll let you know what the dealership's solution is once I go in this Tuesday.

I will be getting them to pay for it once I know how much it's going to cost.

Trust me, I am. Especially because the guy at the audio place didnt say anything about it.

Here is a couple pics for you guys to see. Does it look like it could be soldered/fixed?

New glass is the only way to go....unless you want the "old sawdust in the rear axle" type repair. Don't even think of soldering or the glue.

I took it to the dealer finally today & they looked at it. They said they had to order some special adhesive which will take 2 days to get & if that doesnt work then they have to replace the entire back glass. It all seems like it's covered under warranty though, thank god! I didnt mention anything about the audio place ripping it off the window, I just said i noticed it like that one day, heh.

I guess I should follow up on this thread and let everyone know that the dealership replaced my entire back glass under warranty. The adhesive they used didnt work worth a damn. They said if it happens again though it wont be covered. Im 100% sure it wont happen again.
