throwing code P0449, cant figure out whats wrong
 

Well like the title says im throwing code P0449. evap emission cont/vent valve. Any clue on what to do to solve this problem?

It depends on which valve your needing. The Evap canister vent valve is located on the canister itself under your car just infront of your fuel tank. Pic below.

Fr33k this would show 24 as the evap canister then? bc my car needs a new one... and how hard is that to cahnge?

yea. number 24 is the canister. It looks like it's not too hard to replace. Ya just jack the car up, disconnect 1 wiring harness, disconnect 3 hoses, and take out 1 bolt (number 23). After that, you pull the can outbound and it slides off the other retainer. Your all done.

Joker8810: How did you fare with this task? How much was the canister? I too have to do this myself.

did you replace the entire canister or just the vent valve?

If you hear the knocking in the trunk after shutting the car off then the one onthe cannister is working
I would think.
Check the connector to see if there is any sign of corrosion (green residue on pins and in the socket)
if so clean up with contact cleaner and apply some dielectic grease and try it again.

As far as the one under the hood I would check all hose etc... that connect to the valve for signs of chaffing etc.

check all your vac lines. Like i was telling you that one day you probably have a leak somewhere or a bad part somewhere in the lines.

a few days ago i did some investigating into the p0449 code that i am throwing. come to find out, once i got under the car, it's a broken wire. the white wire that is connected to the evap canister vent valve is broken, and only the orange wire is in tact. so i cut the orange and pulled the wires out and left the connectors in tact so that junk doesn't get up in the vent valve. CED here i come.

iv been running fine, and monitoring my car very closely. unfortunately im still throwing the code but thats it. let me take a look at these wires on my car. how do u think it got cut?

not sure....it was a nice clean cut by the looks of it. the wire wasn't like pulled out or anything.

the thing is this part had already been fixed by the dealership. it threw the code before and the tech found that it was due to a dry rotted wire that broke. the same one i believe. then he rewired it, and now it was cleanly broken. this all happened after the exhaust install.

hey if u get a chance i would really appreciate a picture. there are allot of wires lol.

yeah i'll see what i can do tonight. been raining most of the day around here. i might be able to squeeze my fat ass under without jackin it up. do you know where the evap canister is located? if so you'll see the evap vent valve pokin out and attached to that is an orange wire connector thing that you can unplug...one white wire, one orange wire. like i said i'll try n get a pic for ya 2night.

I'm having a P0449 problem but I have changed the EVAP valve purge valve and charcoal box but I an exhaust leak on my car would the exhaust leak be the cause of the P0449 code?

I have an 09 SS turbo. I had a P0495. I did not really do much in the way of diagnostics. The Evap system does not have many parts. I changed the fuel cap - since my car is a 2009 and it was the original. I also changed the vapor canister valve/solenoid (ACDelco 22865590) along with the adapter harness so I could plug it in (ACDelco 19257603). That solved the problem. I did not even change the whole charcoal canister - just the solenoid valve.

There is a valve under the hood. There is also a pipe that feeds that. I inspected the pipe and it looked good. Just in case I ordered the valve (ACDelco 214-1473) since it was only $18 ... but I never needed it. I guess one day I'll just pop it in there since it's just sitting right there on top of the intake under the hood ... 2 minute job. But the code has been gone for just about a year ... so the fuel cap and/or canister valve took care of the problem.

According to AlldataDiy -

DTC P0443 - Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Purge Solenoid Control Circuit
DTC P0449 - Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Vent Solenoid Control Circuit

If you read AlldataDiy - they seem to interchange the terms vent and purge - which does not help. Just remember there is a solenoid/valve in the canister (by the fuel tank) and also a valve under the hood.

P0449 sounds like the valve under the hood has a high resistance or is open. I would change that since they cost almost no money. If that does not fix it, then you may have an electrical issue or perhaps a leak.

the p0449 is for the vent valve n u say u replaced the purge solenoid which is under the hood. the vent valve is on the charcoal cannister above the fuel tank pressure sensor. which did you replace? i think i replaced my vent valve like 3 years ago n it got rid of that code
