Timing chain

Hey everyone, I was just wondering; since my 2005 Cobalt SS has a timing chain and not a belt, does that mean it doesn't need to be replaced? What noises do I need to look for to determine if it is going bad? It has almost 113k on it and I'm taking it in tomorrow to fix a noisy manifold and exhaust leak, maybe then I can listen for possible timing chain noises.

Listen for a ticking sound. It will be louder when you first start the car and get quieter as it warms up. If you do get this tick, replace the timing chain tensioner. If you still have the noise, it's a good bet that your chain has stretched some. As far as I know though, there is no set interval at which to change the chain because it is supposed to last longer than a belt would.

Oooooh okay thanks a lot man, I just have to get this damn manifold fixed first because that's making a sort of a clicking noise. If I hear a clicking noise after it's repaired, I'll definitely have to get the tensioner done ASAP. Is it an expensive fix?

Tensioner is 40 dollars and there is a how to on here :D

I have been there and done that with my lsj...got it replaced under warranty. I still have some weird noise on that side of the engine underload, but I am not sure what...they replaced essentially everything with regard to the timing chain and everything it touches just to be safe. Cost me 75 bucks. haha

you're taking your car to a dealership after its warranty is up for a leaky gasket? why...?
