What would you do? More stealership tactics...

I have had about all I can take with the dealership.
Power Chevrolet has pulled an all time low.

The history:

I have had a shudder sound in my steering column since the day I bought it.
It was very random and the frequency very low at the beginning.

I had the car in TWO times to have them fix this.

Their fix? They said they "tightened up" something in the steering column.
This fixed it for 2k miles and it always came back.

Recent events:

Due to the frequency being way more than I like, literally any small defect in the road gets the shuddering going. My brother's 07 sedan is tight as a drum, no shudder.

I was told last oil change of which I was at 30k miles that I have until 35k miles for my warranty to cover it with no deductable.

So, that last oil change at 30k I did not have time to let them have it all day and knew I had 5k more miles.

I told them I would have it checked next oil change at 33k miles, the service guy agreed. Thats a full 2000 miles before the bumper to bumper warranty, I was told, would end.

He KNOWS about the history of this and KNOWS that it has been in 2 times and that it was jury rigged just to hopefully get me past my warranty.

He KNEW that my warranty YEAR WISE was going up at the 30k oil change, and told me I had until 35k miles. I feel lied to...

My reaction to the BS:

I told the service guy that this is not a matter of whether the warranty it covering this or not, it is a matter that 2 times they jury rigged this and did not actually fix it while under warranty.

The all time low response:

Well, I went through all the notes on my computer, and I do not see anywhere on here that we did anything to the steering column.
:cussing::cussing::cussing::cussing::cussing:

This guy is telling me that I have to now pay a $100 deductable in order to get it fixed.
Fix a problem that existed during the bumper to bumper and they failed to repair?
Pay $100 for it?
What the hell are they trying to pull?

They actually went so low as to erase notes on working on my steering column just so they can rob me.

If I find the service dept paper showing the two times they did this work, I am going slam it on their desk in front of the manager with a huge WTF...over?

To hell with the service guy, find the paperwork and go straight to the GM. Hopefully that will get your car fixed.

Yeah, get in touch with your area GM rep, that's bullshit. Two more shots and it's lemon law time.

I googled GM and also General Motors Representative in Arizona, and it is not coming up with anything related.

How do I find my local GM Rep?

I hope you can find your paper work, that says what they did to fix it the 2 times you had it in.
You would of recived it from the dealer when you picked the car up.

Permafried- 10-27-2009 10:25 AM

You do have work orders as proof that they at least reported they worked on your car correct?

Stetson 10-27-2009 10:32 AM

thats why i keep all my paperwork in a file cabinet, so if something like this happens. plus if you can prove with paper work that it was in before to have a problem fixed even if your warranty is done they have to fix it.

BlueStang 10-27-2009 10:55 AM

ya try a different dealership these guys sound like real dicks and like everyone else is saying keep all the work orders you have gotten

smartdude24 10-27-2009 11:12 AM

 jury rigged... isn't that what happened with OJ?

rukkee 10-27-2009 01:32 PM

OP send me your vin and i'll pull the service history . If they worked on it during your warranty period ....and submitted a claim to be paid ( which i'm sure they did ) it will show up .

Mike85220 10-27-2009 08:03 PM

I did have 2 things of paperwork stating customer has complained about shudder in steering and that they did service it.
The problem is, I am still trying to locate it.

I hope it wasn't tossed.

But, like was said, there must be a service log under my VIN number of which I will have the GM Rep look into.

rukkee 10-27-2009 08:19 PM

Well good luck, hopefully the GM rep is helpful . I have access to GM Dealerworld + GMVIS and have done 100's of vin's on here for people........ so the offer still stands if you need it.

I'm guessing if the work was covered by warrenty GM should have copies of the work orders the dealer sends them to be paid for the work they did. I know all the times i took my car in for warrenty work i got a letter from GM to fill in the blanks asking how my experience was with the dealer I went to and how i liked they way I was treated and was I happy with the work done

I second this. From my experience, Freeway's sales guys are morons, but their service department is top notch.

Mike85220 10-28-2009 12:06 AM

Thank you guys for the input.

I am going to try calling the dealership and get that number.
If they do not get me the number, I will continue to google for it.

I might take you up on the VIN search.

I am worried that these guys did the work under the radar maybe to dodge fixing something that many Cobalt owners come back to have fixed. So they just rig it to run long enough to get the car out of warranty. In this case, their fix was not good enough to last the full warranty, just the bumper to bumper.
