WTF...Staged and now slipping?

SOOO, im driving my car along and all of a sudden the SC starts slipping out of control. So after about 2days of this, i take it to the stealership where they tell me that my clutch is starting to slip and i need to have it replaced. Oh yea, the cost you ask??? $1800. I had to tell them to kiss my ass and give me my keys. Funny thing is, i have never felt any of this before i put on the GM stage 2. After i went and told GM this, they explained to me that it was nothing for them to do because the stealership is the eyes and ears for them and its nothing they can do for me. WTF. I have an 06 balt with the stage 2 kit. With about 27k miles....

i jsut put my stage 2 on today and it slipped once going into 3rd but that was it. i just kept driving it normally and it never did it again.

is it slipping when you change gears, or in the middle of a gear after it's engaged?

poppagun Jan 4, 2008 09:23 PM

search it man it happens to alot of people when they get staged. some people like my self get lucky and the dealership covers it my best advice is go to a diff dealer and if they say no buy a exedy.

JDMjunkie Jan 4, 2008 09:25 PM

my clutch slips and im not even staged. my balt has less than 9k on it. when i launch the car..i spin through first and when i shift into second it just slips

probably driver error. it's a touchy clutch that is different than clutches in other cars.

ehh i dunno. im not saying im the best driver in the world but im definitly not the worst. i did an internship at a chevy dealer and did a few clutches on HHR's and one on an SS/SC and i swear the clutches looked the exact same. i also heard that our stock clutch is only rated to 220 ft/lb and if thats the case its almost maxed out from the factory with 200.

plenty of people pushing way more than that that are fine. if it's slipping in the middle of a gear, that's one thing. if it's slipping when changing gears, you're most likely hammering the gas before the clutch is fully engaged.

momo_avatar300 Jan 4, 2008 09:51 PM

is there a way to fix a slipping clutch without bringing it to the dealership? like bleeding it or something?

Sorry man, but that is 100% driver error in that case.

Mine was replaced at 4K miles...starting slipping bad after I put a catless down pipe and 2.9" pulley on

Yea, its slipping in the middle of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear. Im about to trade it in for a SRT8 300C.

I can't believe chevy didn't back there own product. No more Chevy for me. Eventhough my father works for them.

well hell, i only got like 7k from my clutch

D4u2s0t Jan 5, 2008 12:08 AM

it's a hard clutch to get used to. i'm 26 and took my driving test with a manual, and it probably took a good 2 months to get used to the clutch in this car.

So, what u think about it slipping in the middle of gears? Should i pay for replacement or try to wait it out.

Sharkey Jan 5, 2008 12:16 AM

its not going to get any better. if your tight on cash just take it easy with it and it wont get worse. id install something like an exedy or spec with fidenza flywheel. and gm doesnt have to do it, a reputable tranny shop will do as good a job at a cheaper price.

i would take it easy for now. try to avoid slipping it. but good luck getting rid of a car with a slipping clutch. you'll get even less for trade in, and trade in sucks as it is. one of the supporting vendors is running a sale on oem clutches now, i think it was only like 2xx dollars. if you're looking to get rid of the car that's the cheap way to do it.

Greased Jan 5, 2008 01:31 AM

idk, mine took a while to wear out completely but performance was TERRIBLE and it probably wasnt safe cuz it could have completely killed in the middle of an intersection or soemthing. When my clutch died i couldnt stop the car, the idle was strong enough to force it forward even though i was holding the break

WheelHoppinSS Jan 9, 2008 12:16 PM

im on 46 K with my stock clutch.... ran the tune of death on 42s and 2.7 for most of it's life and my clutch still hold.... alot of the issue might be in the torque managment of the tune for some but alot of it is learning how to drive.... it's not liek most clutches... u must take your time and u will succeed

devon9832 Jan 9, 2008 07:48 PM

well i finally got a new clutch installed and it feels great. It took some getting use to but i got it. Now its time to trade her in. by the way, that old clutch was flat as pancake, there wasn't a groove in sight. ewwwwwwwww

mrniceguy8211 Jan 19, 2008 12:22 PM

my clutch slip only when I have my td hooked up
