Hey guys and gals I'm new here and to the cobalt scene in general and just out the zzp stage 2 on and have a weird sound like a bearing or almost aluminum sound if a clicking. I've got a 2007 cobalt ss and got the 3.0 with the ECU and everything and got it back together but immediately after cranking I get a check engine light and this weird sound. Hopefully the video loads so you can hear it. To me it sounds like the bearings knocking almost but I'm new to these cars in general.

I've been racing and building cars for years but never these awesome cars! Can any of you help? Ive been using this for pointers and notes and now it seems like I really need the help. Struggling to get a vid to pad with sound but hopefully can. In the meantime anyone got any ideas? The motor hasn't ever had a knock or sound like this. Wasn't sure if pulley is off a little or related to that since again I'm very new to these cars and the supercharger set up. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

No video. If you had the blower off. Check the intake manifold. Sometimes people drop bolts, dowels, or even rocks in there. With the air rushing in, they can cause a rattle.
Aside that only other thing I assumed you changed was Injectors. There's a possibility something fell in or thru the spark plug holes if you went 1 step colder.

Hey Bass waves I didn't even get to the plugs yet. All I had off was the injectors and the charger itself. I had a rag covering the hole and honestly the first time I cranked up it sounded like aluminum hitting the fan almost like a clicking. So I took it back off thinking maybe the gasket was over hitting the blades or something but it was clear. Then bolted back up and clicking sound went away but then it has this weird rattle or clicking but sounds like it would when you are about to have bearing issues. I'm hard of hearing from being in Iraq and all the explosions but it sounds like it's really the charger that's the issue and wasn't sure if I didn't have the pulley on far enough or too far but no belt squeaky noises or chirping. ..

I've got bad luck man lol this always happens because it's too easy.

did you use a pulley installer to put the new hub on the blower, or did you drive it on with a hammer?

maybe pull the belt off and spin the blower by hand, see if you can hear it.

hey yes I pulled it back off to see if maybe the belt has some stress marks or where it could be seen wearing an its good,. The charger sounds good and doesn't sound funky sounds when I crank it gets all weird like a bearings but sound I've never heard. Again I have bad hearing from being blow up in Iraq so very thing to me is hard to hear. Trying t get this vid to load but having a tine getting it to work,


I also put on the zzp then had a shop guy put it on with a press in no time. Everything seems good or no weird sounds like you expect if a pulley is crooked etc.

take the belt off the car start the car see if the noise is still there

if the noise goes away you may have damaged the blower

Yea didn't try that but will later today. I did not have any issues with the blower before, just literally swapped the pulleys out for the 3.0 and the only thing I can think of is the pulley is off a little but not quite sure since a machine shop pressed on for me that builds some serious race cars.


Even took the blower off and it spun freely and no weird sounds or anything or anything in it. Of course I cant turn it at 2000 RPMs but it seemed fine.

Quick question too so if it is the blower can it be driven until it stops? I can order the one ZZP has for the entire kit since I have all the parts and it might just be the blower its self.


And for the car with out a belt this doesn't mess up timing or anything right? I have no idea about turning these over without the belts etc like a normal car or V8 if that makes sense.

You can run the engine for a short time without the belt. Its an accessory belt that runs the alternator, AC compressor and supercharger.

10-4 Ls I will try this today and see whats up. Man I hope this thing didn't go out on me but that's the way it usually goes, one easy project turns in to a couple thousand dollars and 23 hrs of labor lol. I'm glad the blower kit through zzp is fairly cheap too cause man I just got this car and spent the $600 or so on all kinds of changes.




My buddy has a dyno so I was going to see what this Stage 2, 3.0pulley, 60lb inj with ECM tune and headers, cold air, full exhaust would do. But now its just going to sit still lol.
