Ceramic Coating

So im taking the banana in for some Fall Detailing on Halloween !

She will be getting a full paint correction, and sealant along with a layer of Ceramic Coating.

Has anyone ever had experience with Ceramic Coating ? Ive got a great hook-up at this shop who deals with high end cars and i will be taking full advantage of it :) They had a GT3RS, SLS AMG, 918 spyder and a P1 in the shop last night :guns:

Just looking to see if anyone has dealt with ceramic coating on their Cobalt or am i the first lol ?

I will deff be posting up some pics for everyone to see once its done :cssNET:

CQuartz. They all have pros and cons. Some last longer than others

yellowsupercharged06 10-20-2016 11:52 AM

yeah i hear ya. Well they are warrantying this for 3 years so thats good enough for me lol.

exninja 10-20-2016 01:45 PM

I might need to try this. Just need to spend a Saturday, and there are few of those available :P

hawkssoccer11 10-20-2016 02:07 PM

i was looking into this as well. started looking into just a paint sealant but that only lasts for up a year. so im really considering this stuff with my detail business i do on the side and then be able to get $150-$200 a car :guns:

mzspd 10-20-2016 04:12 PM

I have a part time business doing paint correction; Ceramic coating is the way to go! However, the biggest cause of paint defects is washing technique. So spend the money to invest in a good set of drying clothes (theragcompany sells the best) and wash using the two bucket method.

Follow AmmoNYC on YouTube, he has the best videos for learning how to properly wash and detail!

Extreme Dimensions 10-20-2016 05:55 PM

i have it done on my new camaro and love it! but its not cheap so not sure if many cobalt owners would go for it being its $500-2000 a car

Wind 10-20-2016 06:04 PM

Can you explain to me exactly what this is ? (I'm guessing like a protective coating? )

Extreme Dimensions 10-20-2016 06:07 PM

exactly you can read more about it here!

yellowsupercharged06 10-21-2016 09:12 AM

yeah im my own worst enemy. I have only been doing the 2 bucket method for the last year. This is the first time the car is actually being detailed so the paint correction is the majority of the cost. You live and you learn.

Yeah like Mike said, its not cheap. But in my opinion its worth it to have the protection and not have to worry about waxing.

Yeah it'll definitely make your life a lot easier when washing it. But the downside is that you will probably turn out like me and it'll become an addiction.. And then you will want your car to look perfect all of the time haha.

I get compliments on my car all of the time because the coating allows your car stay cleaner for longer and it stands out more when it is clean.

Also, there are so many threads on Reddit and YouTube about proper techniques for detailing and polishing. I encourage everyone to check them out!

yellowsupercharged06 11-04-2016 09:36 AM

going to pick up the car today after work  cant wait

deviance 11-05-2016 07:05 PM

Pics please when you get it! I would love to have my paint fixed, but a respray would be so expensive if this is a good alternative I'd love to save for it.

yellowsupercharged06 11-06-2016 09:10 PM

Ill put up some pics in the morning.

yellowsupercharged06 11-07-2016 10:07 AM

Here she is in all of her shinning glory ! :guns:

I dont have any before pictures, sorry.

It was never really "detailed" since ive owned it so you can image the swirls were really bad. It needed a 3 step paint correction to get to what you see here.:r:

Overall im 100% satisfied with how it came out. The car looks better than it did when i first bought it 7 years ago. :twothumbs

The pictures just dont do it justice.

That looks really good

ECaulk 11-07-2016 11:54 AM

That looks great man, I'm tempted to get that done. I'd rather do it myself, but I know getting the products is tough. Looks like the hit the headlights again, how are they holding up?

thanks !! from what i was reading with certain brands of the ceramic coating you need to be a verified and trained professional to get this stuff. One little bottle of this costs $450 lol. But that bottle gets you through a good amount of cars, just dont spill it.

LOL I'm sold on the product but not the price! I'll do some research about the products available on Amazon and such. I'd like to see those videos though. I figure I can invest a Saturday in claybar and ceramic coat if I can get that showroom sparkle.

Make sure that you correct swirls (after clay bar) with polishing before you coat.. Otherwise you are just putting a layer over the swirls.

The big difference with coatings and wax/sealants is that the coatings do not have fillers. The fillers will make the car look good for a few months and then wear off. So to properly apply a coating you need to remove the imperfections with a polish (without fillers) and then apply the coating over top. That is why he needed a 3 stage polish and why his car looks so good.

Staged07SS 11-08-2016 12:44 PM

Looks good James!!

I can make a car shine that good w/o fancy pancy ceramic coatings though ;)

Well yeah, good waxes and lots of work do a good job. But they wear off relatively quickly.

yup get those swirls out first. They wont ceramic coat anything without some kind of paint correction first, unless you brought your McLaren P1 there straight from the factory. :r:

Those won't scratch the ceramic coating if you use the two bucket method.
