Need Rim Clean Help
 

I have tried Mothers, Bug and tar remover, and 409. This stuff is not coming off. My dad insisted that I install these in the middle of december, so I think it is were the salt ate the metal.

Damn man that sux looks like salt got em for sure, kind of scary cuz i have these wheels sitting waiting to be put on my car.

Well I went to advanced and they told me I have to choices. A. Sand then wet sand. or B. Buy 2 new rims

try some stuff called never dull, it comes in a metal can

Are they clearcoated?

use bar keepers friend, scrub them with a tooth brush....good as new:twothumbs

let it sit for a while maybe 3-5 min. and use a good amount of product. it may my friends dad's Porsche wheels look brand new.

and use a lot of microfiber towels

if that doesn't work try

Idk I tried to find what kind of stuff was used to make these rims and I cant find it... They are Motegi SP5 if anyone can find what kinda metal and finish

Just call American racing they will tell you, Are they still under warranty?

if they are not cleard, try some steel wool and polish.

they are clear coated

Thats not going to work, that is judt to remove surface contaminates, thoe wheels are pitted/ corroded

American racing makes Motegi and yes I'm sure they are cleared I just put a brand new set on my car yesterday and I am looking at the Installation instructions and warranty info now.

how much is elbow grease and where can i get some? :)

i had the same thing happen 2 my rims man... i am still trying to figure out what i am going to do with mine, may need to get them re-finished...

I had this happen to only one set of wheels and now I will not let it happen again, First mistake I made was driving them in winter,if you don't get the salt off immediately they will pit.Same goes for brake dust, it is corrosive and will cause pitting also, they should be cleaned weekly or more depending driving. Also don't use harsh cleaners on your wheels normally soap and water with a sponge works fine, I use a separate microfiber sponge for my rims.In taking all the correct steps it has not happened to me again with any of my After market wheels.

I use a Brillo pad and some new orange clean stuff from turtle wax

I had them on in the winter due to my dad. "he thought it would look good". So if I cant get em fixed I think me and him are going halfs on 2 new wheels.

LOL i would do that but i would also try to repair the ones u have now, If they are 18s i may be interested in one of them if you want to sell.

I dont know where or how to repair these damn things...If some one else wants them I might sell and buy news. Only 1 has the corrsion stuff on it

well.. i posted in this fourm cause i had the same problem, i am still working on mine, i went out and grabed a some 1500 grid and 2000grid wet sand paper, and started standing. It did not seem to work with those , cause mine are more pitted.. so i went with a lower grid, and just re-did the whole rim, and then went back over it with 1500 grid and 2000grid.. and real polished them.. seemed to turn out fine, i will post pics when i get mine finished..

I know here a wheel repair shop can strip them down and refinish for 100 bucks a wheel those will probly be cheaper cause its just the lip mine was a 100 for the gm stocker wheel i had to get done.

I am thinkin about buyin new and usin these as winters...So I might be sellin my stockers
