Tutle Wax - Ice Liquid Clay Bar

Ok i have heard about the clay bar kit before, but has anyone used this one? Correct me if im wrong but this is a liquid, i thought the clay bar was like a "bar" that you rub on th paint to get the scrathes out and other stuff. Is the clay bar kit only in liquid form?

I bought it, and I used the ICE polish afterwards. It worked really nice. I did it one saturday, forgot to get pics on sunday, and it rained on monday! Just my luck huh!?! I'll clean her again and take pics when I'm done.

It does work really nice though!

Clay doesnt remove scratches but can cause marring in the process if used incorrectly. It removes contanminents imbedded in the clearcoat. Make sure you get a quality one that is good. some are pretty abrasive.

I dont understand, do you still use a clay bar with this product? or do you apply and remove it like a traditional polish/wax?

the clay bar is just exactly what it sounds like. Its a soft bar of clay which requires you use to use soap and water( which I dont recccomend) or it comes with a spray lubricant. That advertisement I see says it removes scratches and swirls which is completely wrong. That spray probably has fillers in it which may look like it doing that but as soon as youn wash again, theyll return.

I used this product you are asking about, and it did NOTHING for my paint, in my opinion it's a waste off money.

Yes a "CLAY BAR" is exactly that, a bar of clay that you use a instant detailer spray for lube, and rub it over the cars surface to remove surface contaminates, and leave a smooth surface for polishing afterwards! I have used the "ICE" wax and it is horrible, stick with a real clay bar man, it's actually very easy to use, I used Mothers California Gold Clay Bar Kit, it was 15.00 at any auto parts stores! And then wax as usual afterwards and it looks great!
There is my car after the Clay Bar, and Meguiars NXT Paste Wax!

I didn't think you were supposed to use a clay bar on a clearcoat?

I had always wondered what that ICE stuff was. If it doesnt come with a clay bar, then it shouldnt be called a clay bar kit. is that false advertisement somehow? anywho, I used the meguires clay bar kit and worked WONDERS for my car. it was ridiculous how smooth the surface was. i rubbed my hand over my door panel (where i had not clay bar'd yet) and then i ran my hand across the hood (which was freshly clay bard and waxed!) and the difference was incredible!

And if you use a real clay bar, make sure you know how to use it!!

Yea, thanks for all the input. I was curious though if it was a bar of clay. I think im gonna use a real clay bar. From my understanding, not sure if im right but a clay bar kit can take the swirl marks out of your paint? I hate those. I want them gone.

No a clay bar will NOT take swirls out, you need to polish to get swirls out.

So if i just use some polish it will take the swirls out? is a clay bar just to basicly condition your clearcoat and make it smooth and shiny?

yes, it takes contaminants out to clean what regular washing cannot get. It also helps as prep work for waxing and polishing so that you dont wax or polish the contaminants and create more swirls.

if you use a random orbital buffer, that doesn't go in the same direction all the time, with a good polish it will remove "SWIRLS"

Use the clay bar, and then grab like Mothers or Meguiers 3 step waxing kit. Step 1 is a paint cleaner, Step 2 is a polish, Step 3 is a wax. Worked wonders on my balt

Ya if you use clay and are gonna use a fine polish or an abrasive polish, use a pre wax cleaner too, itll catch the crap the clay wont get. Depending on how bad your marring/swirls are will depend on the type of polish you need.

The Liquid claybar is more like a solid sponge with a chemical mix that you use instead of solid clay. Hence why it removes swirls and scratches, I bought one yesterday on a whim but havent tried it yet. If I remember to Ill post up before and after shots.

Its a "decent" product, does a pretty good job at removing grime. Alot of detailers complaint with the TW Ice is the fact that it doesn't last very long, take that as you wish. I personally use there detail spray and I think it works great. I've used the liquid claybar, & it doesn't do as good as an actual claybar it does do a decent job.

PS moved to Show & Shine
