What products do you use to polish your rims?

Any recommendations on what to use for polishing up the stock polished rims? Curious on what people use or recommend. Thanks in advance :twothumbs

Are they clear coated?

Dunkinuts 11-20-2007 12:50 AM

i use the Meguiars quick detailer for wheels or i just get a clean cloth and just rub'n down. turning the cloth often.

Beck 11-20-2007 12:52 AM

Do not use any metal polish on them, they are clearcoated, all you need to do is wash them like you would the rest of the car.

you'd scratch the shit out of the clearcoat.

Sharkey 11-20-2007 02:13 AM

metal polish is an abrasive material, its designed to actualy remove metal like sandpaper would, but works more like extremly fine sandpaper. basicly imagine taking 2000+ grit sandpaper to your paint.

Sweet... thanks for the replies... :twothumbs

I used a metal polish on mine, that blue paste lookin stuff thats in a round container. Made them really shiny...just went and got the container its called blue magic metal polish. Took out some scratches aswell as leaving them really smooth and shiny!

Put a couple of good coats of wax on them. Then the brake dust will rince right off.

Wheel Sealant

These guys pretty much nailed it. Stay away from a metal polish. Usually just a quick detailer will work. If they're really bad, you can use clay on them. Also, a light polish like ssr1, poliseal, etc will work as well.

EmperorJJ1 11-29-2007 03:41 AM

ooo clay will work? mine are bad and i need to fix it. Ive never used anything special for them just the same stuff as the rest of the car

Chris(NJ) 11-29-2007 09:38 PM

You can use clay on wheels. usually I'll try some clay on real bad brake dust, etc. when the usual cleaners arent working.

EmperorJJ1 12-01-2007 07:48 AM

tried meguires wheel cleaner on the bad spot and 97% was removed so ill try one more time then go with clay bar... i had a few questions reguarding paint thou. I have a deep scratch and few light scratches along with some part of the car that needs to be repainted... al spots arent big so i was planning on fixing with a bottle of touch up paint. im a noob at paint so any advise?

also im looking at that wheel sealant along with some microfiber rags from you... any chance theres a liquid version of the sealant?

jsscooby 12-01-2007 09:52 AM

I bought some wheel cleaner at Dollar Tree and it worked just as well as the more pricey brands.

Lots of cheap wheel cleaners will work. You just have to check what their chemical composition is to ensure they're not damaging the wheels. :twothumbs

Well i have a problem. i took off my polished wheels and went to clean them and i used metal polish. Well to say the least they now look like shit. really shiny from far away but up close you can see the lines from the polish. What should i do?

EmperorJJ1 01-05-2008 05:51 AM

dont think u can do much... if the metal polish fucked the clear coat

Cobalt4Life 01-05-2008 04:32 PM

i have seen that meguiars hot rims paste, havnt tried it yet... i use black magic wheel cleaner which does wonders for my konig unknowns..

steddy2112 01-05-2008 04:34 PM

Motorcycle Polish.

Works like a fucking CHARM...I use it to clean the bike and it takes rubber off the undertail and grease off the rims so I tried it on my car.

I'm sold for life...
