trunk project - subs, fiberglass ... 15 inch screen, NES

alright i posted the topic with the dash project. and the diamond plate cover on the dash will make a bit more sense ..

the trunk set up also needs paint (like the dash) as well as the trunk lid isnt even started. its planed to have a big ass lcd tv or maybe a few smaller ones. but you get the idea of the subs and the layout from the pics

as befor the main topic is at www.nbbadtoys.com found here http://nbbadtoys.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1376 with crap loads of pics

here are the samples.

basicly they are primed and all ready just need paint at this point.

and here is a random pic of my temp box with the speakers im going to use . needed temp box tired of livin with no bass

more pics and info here.

thanks.
when will it be done?... hmm thats a trick question.
not counting the trunk lid that i plan on having a tv screen in and maybe some other things...

the speakers will be painted next spring. and im going to lay down some fat mat. still wouldnt call it DONE. as then it will be a matter of upgrades to bigger amp. maybe 5.1 set up. possible 2 more subs. but atlest the boxes will be in for next seaon.

its super easy. if you check my photo bucket i took pics lots of pics. also i made a box befor the a few years befor that has lots of pics on my photo bucket i made that one to see if i could figure it out. since i started playing with this sort of thing there has been way more people doing it and info on the net. really easy.

ok so i just coulnt stay away. altho there is many flakes of snow on the ground. and i havnt finished any of the other projects or even the half of this one. there isnt much i can do inside so ill do what i can.

its a 17 inch monitor.. its from my computer and since i got a lap top i have no need for it. i got a 32 inch lg tv id like to put in the car but cant see that happening anytime soon. i wanted to go 17 inch or 19 inch wide screen. but thats $600+ so where this one was only probably worth $50 to sell why not work with it?....

it have a vga and a digital vga thingy input and a button on the front to switch betweeen. so its gonna run a video feed from the head unit (when i get one) and on the other input will be the NES thats right nintendo . i been savin this thing for just such a reason. now the video is the easy part im thinkin.l maybe not we will see how that goes.

the sound on the other hand is the trick. i dont want to feed it into the car speakers. no reason. so i got 2 tweets that will play the nes sound face it its not like it needs to be that good. so i need to get a cd player with a aux input and install that as a standalone unit in my trunk that will be the amp and volume control for my nes. it would also play cds like normal as well.. and this setup should be fully upgradeable to an x-box 360 or anything else i can think of. more delays more work. more projects started with out any finished.

but not much else i can do in the winter so may as well do this as its something i can do inside. and i cant take my dash out as i need the heater vents. and i cant fiberglass or paint inside so ill get this ready all but fiberglassed and hope for the best.

the tweets needed rings. so i spent some time doing that tonight. as you can see there isnt much room left and the holes cant be covered as i need to still mount this all some how. and if i forgot to say in earlyer posts. this will be fiberglassed wont just be wood taped ton carpet.. as much as it would save time.

WOW!
I love that diamond plate, very unique
I may not really agree with your choice of equipment, but think in no way should that take away from the awsome custom work you have done

I have a couple questions though.
What kind of amp is that in your photobucket pics, it kinda looks like a JBL, but it kinda looks like a MMATS, I couldn't tell cuz you had the cover taken off.

All that custom work and I saw no hint of sound deading, you should really think about covering the trunk in a layer, and the upper and lower section of the rear deck lid, that diamond plate is going to add to a already rattle infested car (Cobalts/G5's are horrible for the rattle),
Just something to think about before the system goes in, once its in you will be reluctant to pull it out to lay sound mat.
BTW- If the price of Dynamat is what is keeping you away from it , try Hush Mat, half the price, just as good and way easier to work with, no roller required, no heat gun either.

All in all I say keep up the good work

Forget the comment about the amp, i looked and saw its a computer, duh!!

i do plan on useing fat mat. i have not heard of this hush mat tho., i may look into that as well. even with the 2 12 inch subs in a 15 min temp wood box the trunk pan where the spare tire should be flexes about 2 inches up and down.. so yes its gonna have some kinda mat on it.

fitment issues part 1...lol
so aparently fitting a 17 inch monitor into a trunk lid on a G5 isnt any easy task. i thought this would be one of the easyer projects. and it being -12C outside dont help much either....

i think if i keep playing with it inch by inch i may end up with it fitting... key word is may..

wow i looked back and i started planin this on april 24th 2007 i got the car on the 5th of april 2007. so its been 2 years now. keeping in mind , money , having other projects on the go , and free time to work on it all factor in.
regardless they arnt perfect. not even close. but they are fiberglassed, customer and one of a kind. made to fit in my car and they just fit with less then a 1/16 of an inch to spare probably way less with paint. i couldnt be more impressed with how the red faced subs look with the red boxes. maybe not everyones style. but i like it and it should look great in the trunk.

as far as weight. im gonna say boxes with subs probably be around 50-60 lbs
should not effect my car too much come to think of it even if its around 100lbs as its more towords the center of the car. in fact its way close to the back seats. . im sure ill notice the differance. as i do with even the spare tire int he car.

regardless im happy to see another one and not only that but my biggest and longest taking project coming to an end.
many thanks to the supports and people that replyed and kept me going and made me feel like i wasnt the only one intrested. hence the millions of pics.
