Need Help

09 Cobalt SS Coupe. Keeps popping P0036 code twice and I have only found one sensor. It isn’t hooked up it’s just tied off to the side. Where is the other!? I found one that seems to come off right after the turbo within the shard but it’s a 5 wire connection not a 4!?

That code is for the rear o2 sensor heater, going to be lower down on the downpipe after the cat. Make sure the wires haven't been ripped out of the sensor or the downpipe is catless and doesn't have a rear o2 bung. The one your talking about sounds like the front o2 sensor which on this car is a wideband that's why its a 5 wire.

There’s no bung for it there it’s just strapped up there to the side. I was assuming since it popped twice that it was both and the lower/back isn’t hooked up and has no where to hook up. I bought the car about a month ago and it never popped till yesterday.

Sounds like you have a aftermarket exhaust which means it should have been tuned out. Is the whole sensor there or just the connector?

if there is no bung on the down pipe then you have an aftermarket exhaust. is the car tuned at all??? if so they could have re tuned it before they sold it and turned those codes back on.

It’s a full ZZP Exhaust. They said at the dealer they didn’t touch it. I got in contact with the previous owner and he said it was tuned by Trifecta Performance. The code never popped until a month after I have been dailying the car so I’m assuming it is still tuned without the rear o2 sensor. The whole sensor is still there just tied up and the front/top one is connected. I was thinking that was gonna be the one I would have to replace and I could just get rid of the lower one completely?

Here’s a crappy picture of the top one. I just don’t know if replacing it will fix it?

Should I replace the top and just let the bottom go since it’s tuned out? I don’t wanna waste money if it’s not needed lol.

The code you have is for the bottom one so it sounds like since they left it in there they did not tune out the heater code which wouldn't make sense. Replacing the top one wouldn't do anything for that code. To me it sounds like they didn't tune that code out so they just left the sensor there, which honestly its stupid since they did a tune anyway. Your best bet would probably be have someone retune it, take the code out, and junk the sensor.
