kcpoloman build thread

Just bought a 2006 SC for $2800. 75k miles on body, 85k on motor. Has GM stage 2 upgrade with the G85 package. It was a salvage title from someone swiping the side of it but the car runs great. Car was also in a minor flood. Clear coat is coming off from the repair on the body, crappy paint job I guess. Just needs new paint with some regular maintenance. It definitely needs some TLC before its ready to go but Im all in on bringing it back to its former glory.

My ultimate goal is to get a short block from ZZP and a TVS while restoring the car to new. Going to be replacing or repairing everything I can as I go. This site is my go to for how to's and all info Cobalt.

Started tearing it down today. Needs some serious cleaning, the car sat outside for three years with no motor. E-brake has a busted bracket and right side cable. I have a new cable, not sure where to find the bracket. A junk yard I suppose.

Pulling the carpet in for the night to dry. Priorities.

Inside was pretty dirty. Car sat outside for a few years with no motor. I had to clean all this by hand. It was just the only way to be thorough.

I thought I was the only one who stripped a car like that just to clean the interior

I did the same thing when I picked up my sedan.

we do that at my shop on anything we buy, weather its to sell or keep. most cars i can rip apart, clean and reassemble in around 4 hours, minus dry time. its so worth it.

I really need to do this with my SS. The PO smoked in it, so it has little pieces of tobacco all over the damn place.

I just replaced both driver and passenger side cables with brand new units. Driver side still doesnt grab all that well. I think its the design of the parking brake itself.

This is a picture with the parking brake off. Everything looks good.

Now this is with it engaged 3 to 4 clicks. As you can see it pulls the passenger side forward far more than the driver. I have tried this with a different parking brake I also have and it does the same.

I think its just a shitty design.

Thats fine. Im replacing all four rotors, calipers and pads in a couple weeks. Also going to put in new axles and Timken wheel bearings all around. Hopefully that irons it out.

This thread is inspiring, I'm rebuilidng/re-doing things the right way in a 2007 ss/sc I picked up back in March. Has stage 2 kit, unsure of tune,, 2.9 pulley, you can see the details in my sig. About to have a re-tune by zzp, also replacing the dc sports intake with a K&N typhoon, and replacing the ricey sounding Borla exhaust are my first steps. Once the tune is right, gonna grab the rotated mounts, torque dampener, twin subframe brace, and fe5 suspension so i can get rid of the wheel hop off the line. Hoping by the end of the summer to have at least these things done. I'll be watching your build up here as well, keep up the good work man.

Most have pulled out 20 pounds of dirt today in the fenders. I have new fenders, hood and front bumper with chin spoiler coming. Going to make it easier to plasti dip the car since the original bumper is falling apart and the hood is **** with clear coat coming off. I also have a DYC kit coming from dipyourcar.com . Three gallons of black and two gallons gloss. Also have a kit for the wheels. Anthracite grey with clear coat. Still a long ways from doing that though. So much body stuff to get done before its ready for paint.

Hell ya, I wanted a new Cobalt SS but they dont make them anymore lol. So Im trying to get it as close as possible. Not taking any short cuts and replacing everything I can with new parts if I can. Basically tackling the interior and exterior first then its suspension, wheel bearings etc before moving on to the motor and tranny.

Looks like the plug for the ambient temperature sensor that's attached to the driver side headlight bracket

Thankfully the sensor is still there. Looks like the previous owner, after putting on aftermarket headlights, forgot to plug it back in.

This previous owner must have because the passenger side bracket was busted and held together with zip ties. I got a new one on the way.
