Overheating and a/c acting weird!
All right everyone. I've got some problems. I have a '06 cobalt LS with 172000 miles on it. Just recently my car has begun to act up. While driving and idling my car will heat up to 205F. Normally it will sit at 187F. At the same time my A/C will only run at about half power. When I turn it to full blast it shuts off. Is there a connection between the two? I've done as much searching as possible and I can't seem to find anything about it. I have already checked to make sure that the cooling fan is running and that the coolant levels are correct. Any one have any ideas?

I would be tickled with 205, mine use to run 194-198 the decided to run 216, I checked and changed everything and temp gun shows its running around 200 so I don't worry, have put 40K miles on it like this.

I'd say your temp increase is probably something called "summer." The A/C pressures might need to be checked. Your car is over 10 years old so it wouldn't be surprising if you need a recharge. You can also check fan speed, I believe a generic OBD scanner will tell you fan speed but I'm not 100% on that.

The car only has one fan, it's expected to run for both the cooling system and a/c. If it's weak it will cause your issues. It also may not be coming on until the high speed is triggered, if a relay is burned out on the low side. Which will increase temps and reduce a/c effectiveness.
