ZZP Z54 Turbo info

So basically looking to see who's gotten a hold of one of these and what kind of numbers are being put down compared to the 6758. Spool characteristics. Pretty much just any information on this turbo would be nice. Couldn't find any facts online except for what zzp put on the website. Was surprised to see no threads started on here. Although it hasn't been on the market for long. My understanding is it's pretty much a 6758 with a journal bearing instead of dual ball bearings. I would expect it to spool a bit slower and have a shorter life expectancy?

I grabbed one, sold out the day after. I know Kmo43 has a friend who grabbed one as well.

As to construction, Omiotek is correct in that the titanium wheel was ditched as well. Overall though the build quality doesn't seem to have suffered in any way, the shaft has absolutely zero play in any direction on mine, and seems to still spin quite freely. I won't have any numbers available for a few more weeks while I find the time to install it then get tuned. I was already planning on doing a write-up with my thoughts on it after driving with it, initial impressions/long term updates, etc.

Edit: Do note though that I don't plan on pushing it ***** to the wall, I was originally just going to get a WR-1/K04R, but when this came up I grabbed it so if I did decide to go for more power down the road I could without needing another turbo.

Cool definitely keep us posted. Turbo was starting to make a squeel noise when it's cold. (I think it's the turbo) as it only happens under boost. Starting to explore replacement options.

Sounds like they sold out pretty quick. Speaking of Kevin, haven't seen him post in a little while.

Yeah, I saw Kevin's Facebook post about it, bought mine the next day, and the day after they were sold out. Got mine the next day too, but that's just from being only 3 hours away from them.

I don't know on that 100%, but ZZP is etched into the exhaust housing.

Due to the possibility of a major job change, I guess I'm going to stay late tomorrow to get this installed, cause I may not access to a lift much longer since the new job is a different deal than being a mechanic.

Okay, stayed late as hell at work and got the turbo installed. I didn't beat on it since it's not tuned for yet, but I did boost it to 10psi at part throttle just to see how it acts. It is noticeably slower spooling up at the moment that the k04 was, but again, no tune. That'll all change soon, and once it's tuned I'll give my $0.02 on it for what it's worth. For now it's back in the garage, and I'll have to suffer in my Outback for a bit.
