2010 Cobalt SS in town for sale - Realistic selling price?

Hi all,

I already own a 2010 Black Cobalt SS, my cousin loves my car. Turbo, light, easily modded, etc. He's 20. So sure enough, someone in town is selling a 2010, black Cobalt SS! I drove to Virginia for my car in 2012 (We live in NY) so to see this car on sale in town so close is surprising.

My cousin says the car looks mint, and has only 33,500 miles on it! The seller is asking $15,000 for it, which is absolutely way too high. The seller is trying to cash in on the fact that it's a hard-to-find car with such low mileage. I know that rare cars in exceptional condition often fetch a premium, but that price sounds too high. I think my 2010 in great condition w/ 85,000 miles is worth about half that! Not sure how rare our cars are and what kind of premium an SS fetches when it has such low miles and the condition is exceptional.

So what do ya'll say, what's a realistic price for a mint mint 2010 black SS with 33500 miles? He'll test drive it tomorrow if the owner is available. I'll probably drive it too just to make sure it is what they say it is!

thanks for your reply, it’s a good base to work off of. Great car, mileage in the 30s, no rust and $11k. I said to my cousin $10k tops but now $11k sounds reasonable, and definitely not $15k. You know those kind of sellers… They throw these high numbers out there then they get offended when you give a real price, as if your lowballing them. $11k sounds reasonable for a car that’s one year newer, same miles, and could have some slight NY salt/rust.

It is varying by the part of the country... I rarely see them for sale here with low mileage. The last 2010 I saw went in the 12's at a dealer and was 33k miles. It was one owner with a car fax service record showing the dealer did every little bit of maintenance.

I tried to find a sales by state and couldn't find anything but they sure seem to be all over the east end.

go to nada and kbb and look up what the value to your area is, the value of a used car will depend on the area, I have seen ss cobalts where I live posted for around 5k-9k

I've seen decent cars with higher miles go for $7500-8500. 11 sounds a little steep, but it's all in what someone is willing to pay. I wouldn't borrow 11 to pay on a cobalt just due to their value. Never getting rid of mine.

Thank you everyone

Thanks all for your input, I appreciate it. $15k is insaaane heh, sounds like $11k would be OK but it has to be mint. Any mods or any issues will lower it further. I haven’t seen the car, my cousin said the owner is firm at 15k. I might call the owner in a month and ask them how the sale is going

There was a brand new cobalt for sale on here a couple years ago. Some dealer forgotten storage thing. Had like 15miles on it 08 ss if I recall. And they had a hell of a time getting 16k for it. So that guy is definitely dreaming. Over 10k would have to be less than 30k miles and probably a sedan (example above) 6-9k would be reasonable for great condition cobalts with low miles. All about what people are willing to pay at the end of the day. Unfortunate for the seller great deals for the buyers out there.

I got my 2010 LT Coupe for $9400 CAD like 3 years ago but the dealership was going to mark it up to $11,500 if I didn't get it then and there. Had 33k kms on it, decent condition (pretty good crack on the lower front bumper).

Recently got a 2008 SS with 55k kms on it, good shape, with some mods for $10k. The kid wanted $10.5k but because we related so much on cars and stuff I got him to 10 grand. The tires are pretty garbage tho, starting to go bald and are cracking, also a leaking flex pipe. I paid maybe a little more than I should've but I rarely ever see SS' go on sale here with less than 100k kms so it was a now or never kinda purchase.

Seeing one go for 15 grand and only be 2 years newer than mine is ridiculous. I mean I heard the SS Sedan can go for upwards of 15-17 grand, but that's because the yellow and white ones are apparently very rare. I'd pay no more than $12k for it. That's almost going into 350z territory.

Bingo! Much better cars to be had for the $$. $10k for a 2008 with low mileage, excellent. 55k is like 35000 miles, so your car is the same as the one being sold but 2 years older. At this point, age means nothing, only thing that matters is if the body is straight, everything works like a car with low mileage should. Warranty is gone on both cars but that shouldn't matter if it's in good condition.

Enjoy your SS they're great cars! Don't beat on it and you'll be fine. I can't stress that enough I had an SC for 4 years and now the TC for 5 years. 9 years of Cobalts = 2 full exhausts, 1 trans, 1 axle, 4 motor mounts, 1 head, 2 turbos, 1 set of pistons, and many hours on my back. G2 pay to play.
