Exclamation Weird sound when revving car for first 30 seconds

I have a 2006 Chevy Cobalt LS and it has around 118xxx miles. It recently started getting colder in the area that I live in in Ohio and I suddenly started realizing a new noise in my car. You go start it and it sounds fine. As soon as you hit the gas (driving or in park) for the first 30 seconds or so of the car running, it makes a weird noise. Sounds like someone put zipties on something and its spinning around hitting something under the car. I've checked for zipties didn't see any. I also didn't see anything wrong with the exhaust either so I have no idea what it could be. It sounds like it is underneath of the driver and passenger front seats, up to the back of the engine bay (closer to the dash). Here is a link to a video of what it sounds like.

With it getting colder, it takes more time for the oil to heat up and get circulating through the engine (especially if you're not using some sort of synthetic oil).

Turn on the car and let it run for a minute first before taking it out of park, and don't hammer on it for at least 5 minutes. Guaranteed you won't hear that noise.

Also, I don't see the video.

Yeah video like didn't make it. Did you ever replace your timing chain tensioner with the newer upgraded unit? Could be that. I never experienced problems with mine in my 2006 LS but I replaced it at about 100,000 miles. Though I can tell you I installed a parts store brand timing chain kit that was garbage and the timing chain rubbed against the metal on the top tensioner and it would make a racket right at startup before the oil got to it.

Nothing with the timing chain has been replaced. But would it really make noise underneath the car?

No I just don't know how accurate your ears are. Just thinking of mechanical issues that only make noise right at startup.

Sounds like an exhaust leak to me. Especially if it goes away when warm. Check all bolts on the exhaust.

He said on the exhaust. Like start at the header bolts at the head and work your way back.

Definitely an exhaust leak.

When the gaskets get older they don't seal as well anymore. When the car is cold the gaskets are letting some exhaust gas get by but once the exhaust heats up (takes maybe a minute) the gaskets expand and seal the small gaps where the exhaust leaks out of when the gaskets are cold.

Basically you can just deal with it or replace the gaskets.

Sounds like a single cylinder exhaust leak so your looking at the manifold.
