Hesitation during WOT today
Hey guys, so my car is running perfect knock on wood however today on my way into work 2 different times I attempted WOT & both times when I hit around 4K rpms I experienced power loss and hesitation. In the past when I had experienced this I would throw a CEL followed by reduced engine power however today I did not get a cel or reduced engine power just the brief power loss both times so I backed off but then she was fine.
I also scanned for trouble codes but I am not getting any codes ?
Now last week I did not have a cel but I did search for trouble codes just to make sure everything was ok & I did find a P0833 which as we know is Clutch pedal position switch however I cleared the code a week ago & it hasn't come back so I don't know if that would be related to what I experienced today or not ?
Also it's been raining really hard in Ohio the past 2 days including this morning on my way in & im sure I hit some puddles on the way in. I do have a CAI however I have the hydro shield over my Amsoil dry filer so all though you can't submerge it I'm water I would think that it would keep most moisture out.
Anyhow that's it guys so I was hoping to get some feedback from you all & get your thoughts.
I recently went into WOT a few times over the past few days when it's been dry out & I didn't experience any issues.
For the record I have a lot of mods but nothing super new. My main mods are 42" injectors that came with my GM stage one kit 3 years ago, 3.0 ZZP pulley, Injen CAI, all cooling mods including Zzp HE, dual pass endplate, option B, 3" Zzp shorty header, 3" Zzp downpipe with 400 cell spun cat, 3" Zzp catback with resonator & 3 chamber muffler system.
I'm also completely up to date on all Maintance. I'm a preventive maintenance guy so if I'm working in one area I will replace most everything else in that same area with new parts even if they don't need replaced yet plus not to mention I'm huge on staying up to date on oil changes with Mobil one fully synthetic

So to add to this post when I went to lunch today the rain had stopped so I got into WOT about 2-3 times and for the most part the power loss/hesitation was all but gone however I searched for trouble codes & im getting a P0103 which appears to be a Mass airflow MAF circuit high code ? I'm thinking that again I may have gotten some water in my intake this morning & that could be causing the P0103 code. I cleared the code so I will see if it comes back.
I am still running with my OEM MAF sensor would you guys recommend me replacing it with a new MAF sensor ? & if so where would you request I get one from ?

Would bet you pulled in some water vapor that made it harder for the system to read fully. I run a hydrosheild also, but I never plan to drive it when it's predicted to rain. If I daily drove mine I would not run a cai, due to so many horror stories. Not worth risking a hydrolocked motor.

Thanks guys and your both correct the code hasn't come back & after letting her dry out over night I was able to get into WOT without issue today. I am currently running the hydro shield & it does work well however when it's raining I'm just going to stay out of wot
I did go ahead & purchase a new GM MAF since mine is so old I figured it was time to replace with a new OEM GM MAF. I also picked up a new Injen hydro shield since my current one is over 3 years old I figured it couldn't hurt to slap a new one of those on as well.
Question, I do plan to build up the inside of my fender well & around my driver side headlight in order to plug as many holes as I can to keep water out of that area however should I be concerned with making my fender well to water resenstent which in return could actually lesson the amount of air coming into the fender well for my CAI to suck up ?
I guess my thinking was that our fender wells are already pretty darn closed up & if I go in & plug all additional holes everywhere inside the fender well plus around the hole where the intake goes through when entering the fender well & block off the driver side headlight my fear would be that sure it would make it water tight but it could make it air tight as well preventing my intake from getting air. Is my thinking correct on this ?

I have a lnf, which is in a different area than the lsj. There is only so much you can do to deal it up and as you say at that point it's not getting a lot of fresh air. When water is flying around at 60+ miles an hour it can find a way at times to get in there. The big killer is hitting a big puddle at speed.

Thanks Nova so basically it sounds like my best bet is to just pop in my new GM MAF sensor & my new hydro shield that I just purchased but do not try to tape off areas as that will reduce fresh air flow & instead just take it easy on rainy days

Sounds good to me. You will always have opportunity to get water to it, just be careful on rainy days. If I had to do mine over again I would just go with a Sri instead of a cai due to them being in the engine compartment. If there is ever a doubt if you exposed it to water, I would limit throttle on it as you really start pulling a lot of air/water vapor with that increased air demand.
