New cooling mods: Vented hood and trans cooler

Trying to tackle a few cooling mods before taking Luci back to the track now that she has her new LDK heart.
Figured I'd post in this section as only the road racing crowd would benefit from these mods.
Started on cutting into my hood this weekend to install some functional heat extraction vents. I'm also going to be putting in a transmission cooler. I'll post up my progress in the thread.

My original plan was to use a CF hood for this but the expense of an unexpected engine replacement and build pushed that to the right. So I figured why not use my OEM hood as practice

Used automotive primer to protect the bear metal cutting surfaces from rust.

I'm sure it can't hurt. You probably deliver a lot of heat on a road course.

Heat has been my biggest problem on track. Besides catastrophic engine failures, that is lol
Just a few laps at speed and I’m seeing coolant temps in the 240s.

20 minute sessions going WOT 80 percent of the time is hard on everything

Finally. :P We saw that adding the hood louver really helped get heat out of the engine bay.

Do you have to modify them much or at all?

Looking forward to the results.. You always do great work.
I have been looking at different functional vent designs but haven't found what I am looking for.

I don't have a wiper trim piece, so my entire hood is basically a giant 4"+ cowl lol. I don't have any before/after data, but I'm sure its a measurable difference. Maybe this summer I will do some testing

Trans cooler eh? Does that require addition of an electric pump?

iirc removing the cowl plastic actually causes worse underhood airflow

My ETCs actually went down a noticeable amount, but that could have been a number of factors. I just know the general delta from before and after, but didn't ever do a direct with and without comparison since that wasn't why I removed it.

Your choice... The only thing I think would look good on a G5 is a car crusher...

G5 is a Cobalt with a different front bumper. They are both **** boxes.

Has anyone ever tried spacing the hinges on the rear of the hood slightly to see if that would aid in extraction? I know it wouldn't look the best but who cares, if it works.

The theory is the same but the geometry wouldn't be. As far as fluid flow dynamics the results could be much different. They could also be the same. Which is why I asked if anyone has tried it. To me, empirical data is much more useful than hearsay from "experts"

No amount of powdercoat will be able to save it?

He's trying to be sassy.

People do it all the time, but you will hear endless arguments for both sides with no real proof. Try it out and gather your own conclusions. You can also pull the rubber seal off the cowl to open up a gap without having to space the hood.

Trust me bruh, Im an engineer at Hyundai. I work with automatic transmissions, which if you didnt know is heavily intertwined with underhood fluid dynamics... dont ever question my extensive knowledges.
