Strut mount bearing orientation (Moog

Hoping someone can help me out, wanted some clarification... would call Moog but they are closed during the weekends.

Also, don't really want to make a separate thread, but got another question. I have two oem SS/TC (LNF/fe5) rear suspension springs. Is there a certain orientation for them as well? They seem to be symmetrical and I do not see any white paint marks to indicated "this side up."

Setup
Moog K160136 - coil spring seat
Moog K160052 - strut mount assembly

The strut mount bearing has a black and white side. Which side faces up and mounts to the strut mount? Is the first picture below correct?

Other pictures for your reference

Thanks in advance!

When assembled, black side should be down as in your first pic. Did it come with instructions showing how to place the seat on the spring?

Thanks, I appreciate the input. That's why my gut was telling me as well since the strut mount would "seal" the bearing...

They did come with instructions but they were pretty generic. They were not helpful at all and did not provide any guidance. I could post pics if you want to see them. I was going to line the spring with the tab on the seat like in the thread below.

Have JDBaugh1 look at this. He just did his and took pics. Mine pointed to each other or basically point opposite of the mount or toward the engine.

As I recall they are supposed to point towards the motor, up to about 10:00 as you are looking at them on the car from the side.

Bumping thread, hoping I can get some further help...
So I assembled the strut and I am coming across the following problem, for some reason the strut rod does not seem centered (A vs B). Anyone have an idea as to why this is?

Strut = OEM LNF (SS/TC) - ACDelco 506-684 and 506-683
Springs = OEM LNF (SS/TC)

FYI - Schwaben 003046SCH01A-03 Strut Nut Socket (21 mm) is a great alternative to Kent Moore J-42991. You will also need a torx 45. I was able to torque to spec (52 lb/ft).

And I am seeing different suggestions on where the tab should be (C).
A couple threads say that the tab should align with the spring and other people are saying it should point elsewhere?

I marked my springs with a paint marker before disassembling so I could put them back together the same way they came off so I don't know if I even paid attention to the tab. I will have to do some looking back and maybe even look at the springs that are on my car before I can be much help. Out of town currently but should be able to get you some data tomorrow hopefully.

Just looking at it makes sense that you would align the tab the way you did so that if the spring ever compressed that far the larger diameter second coil from the top would have a stop instead of potentially extending up past the seat. As far as your concentric issue that could be because of how the spring seat sits on the upper hat at an angle and will straighten out when installed. That upper rubber bushing has enough flex in it to allow that I would imagine.

Your spring seat tab needs to point directly opposite or 180 degrees from the strut mount.
Using your pic it needs to be exactly opposite of the Yellow mark.

Just curious, where is the end of the coil in relation to that tab? What is the function of the tab?

The tab is for alignment purposes only. The spring can only sit in one place as long as it is set in the bottom seat correctly. The way you have it now is wrong. I know someone posted that but it is absolutely incorrect. The tab should basically point toward the engine.

The tab is so you can orient the cup to the spring and lower assembly properly? It's function is just as an indicator then?

Edit: Although not explicitly answered it appears the purpose of the tab is strictly as an indicator for top cup to lower assembly alignment.

Thanks everyone, this helped immensely. Hopefully I will get time this following week to correct the orientation, will post pic afterwards.

Took your guys' advice and moved the tab so that it faces towards the engine. The strut rod now also seems centered. Thanks again everyone for the suggestions.

One last question while I am at it, the rear OEM LNF (SS/TC) springs do not have a side that needs to be up? They look symmetrical (no tightly wound coil on one side) and I don't see a white paint mark.
