So I got some weight saving parts...

I believe I mentioned some custom carbon goodies in one of my other threads a while back.
I figured they deserve their own place as they are not cooling mods nor appearance mods; they are first and foremost weight saving mods!

Remember the time attack Cobalt? It had many carbon body panels as well as Lexan windows to shave weight.
Well, I managed to get my hands on SOME of those parts! Big thank-you to Matt Omiotek, who was nice enough to ask me first.
I was initally mostly interested in the hood, but Matt persuaded me that all the parts should stay together.
So I now have a hood, trunk, trunk spoiler, front lip, front splitter and roof strakes. This stuff is made out of honeycomb carbon and is stupid light weight. The hood for instance weighs 6 pounds, you can literally lift it with 2 fingers!
I am not going to talk about how much these parts set me back; in my household it is known that I got it all "very cheap" And considering that over a decade ago, it probably cost $8K to custom make these parts, they really were a bargain!
Now all these parts were spares that have never actually been mounted on a Cobalt before, so they are unfinished.
Here are some pictures:

Unfortunately, that brake duct in the last picture was something Matt threw in, as the driver side one is missing. Such a shame, as it really is a dream setup for track use, but having one custom made will probably cost 5 grand or something stupid so that's not gonna happen.
Also, the splitter fits an LSJ and will need some modifications to fit my LNF.

I'm not sure what to think of the roof strakes, they were never actually used on the time attack Cobalt. They run from the top of the windshield all they way to the bottom of the rear window! I'm sure there is some aerodynamic advantage to them, but I am not sure how or exactly where I would attach them. They might just end up as a decoration on my garage wall along with the single brake duct.

It will be a fall/winter project to prep these parts. I plan on just polishing the carbon pieces, don't want to hide them under a layer of paint, even if that means their finish is not perfect. They will be uniquely perfect to me . Bigger challenge will be mounting them; none of these parts have nutserts or anything to attach them so that may be a job for a local body shop.

As much as it will pain me to cut into the hood, I will want to have vents in them as I made in my steel hood. In fact, I just secured another set of the vents I used - these are becoming unicorns and impossible to find; I've been on the lookout for these for almost a yea now and a set finally just popped up on Ebay so I snatched them up!

I will update this thread as I work on purdying up these parts and getting them ready to be mounted on Luci. To be continued!

Its running, I have a few things I need to iron out in the tune once he gets it to the track (drivability stuff and how the boost comes on for out of corners)

She’s down right now waiting for a new oil cooler manifold from Powell. Then it’s off to the track!

Maybe not . . . if you want to get a driver's side let me know, we might be able to get that made for less than you'd think!

With that front bottom splitter, does it run from front bumper to subframe? Does it stop short of an air dam for the radiator?

I actually may have a bead in the other one. But if it falls through, I’ll be in touch!

I haven’t test fitted it yet on the car. But I know it needs cutting to fit on an LNF.

This is epicness at its best. Those roof parts, could they theoretically replace the strips on the sides? or are they too wide? Im sure Powell would know best.

They are actually wider than the stock roof rails. I think they were meant as an addition. I have no reference however, as these were never actually installed on the time attack Cobalt, so no pictures exist that I know of. I believe they were deemed illegal.

You will be running the only real carbon parts made for a cobalt. Not the fiberglass based ones that they say are carbon. Nice part about it is you won't be sacrificing strength due to that.

Nice. glad they went to a good home. I was so sad I lacked the $$$ when he was trying to sell those.

Once we actually get running again I may ping you about the roof and window rails if you arent gonna use them
