Broken air intake

Ok, we bought this Cobalt for my 15yo to fix up prior to turning 16. I asked he replace the air filter and might need to "carefully" bend the intake tube to do that...my definition of careful and his teenage definition aren't quite in-line....he broke this.

The car was cheap as it has other issues, so we are trying to keep his out of pocket expenses low. Trying to figure out if we can get just this piece out. In the parts diagram this is a single unit and $75.... Worst case we will find a fix, but hoped you might have some advice on replacing just that part or even on a fix? Thx in advance

Go to the junkyard and pick up the whole intake system for cheap. If something else breaks replacing the filter, you already have the part in hand.

Thanks - will do, unless someone has a cheaper option. I imagine this won't be the first/last part that is moved "too hard" and breaks

Use car-part.com. Using your location and a random zip code within city limits:

That part always tends to break and if you get another one I'm pretty sure It will break again and you need to buy the whole thing. Best thing is to buy the zzperformance upgraded tube so you dont have to worry about it anymore. I know you're trying to keep it cheap but that's the best option

Very brave, I was a damn good teen but I wouldn't have trusted myself at that age with that kind of power.

you can also replace it with a better nipple. There used to be a how-to on here but I can't find it and I think the pictures are gone, but you may be able to figure it out.

Just make sure he doesn't throw a "tune" on it because it can really up the hp. I would have got in a lot of trouble had my parents allowed me to get a cobalt turbo car. I paid for my first car by working but they still had the right to say what I could and couldn't get. I really wanted a 71 camaro with a 454. Then it was a 69 charger with a 440. Needless to say I didn't get to come home with either.

Thanks everyone. I actually didn't realize how fast the car was when purchasing...I plan to "de-tune" it to keep him safe

Or maybe I'll just tell him I have one of those Verizon Hum's in the car (telemetry device). Either way all the work he's putting in to fixing it was the other hope it wouldn't be used carelessly. Having a manual helps with txt and drive too

Good luck. Eventually you get complacent enough that I tend to do other things while shifting through traffic
