07 2.2 Ecotec build
Hey, I have a 06 cobalt that I’m wanting to build the other motor I have for. The other motor is a 07 2.2 out of a cobalt also. The plan is to go with a supercharger setup, just basically wondering what kind of setup and internal motor work I’m going to need to put it at 250-300 fwp. And at that point what kind of hp is the stock 5 speed tranny gonna hold?

the biggest problem is there is no way to tune the factory ecm on the 05-06 2.2l, so unless you go with a stand alone system your out of luck.
next up is the 02-06 2.2l and 07+ 2.2l engines are different. the 02-06 engine uses a 7x crank reluctor wheel, the 07+ uses a 58x wheel. the work around here would be to track down an early crankshaft and use that during the build.
the stock 5 speed is actually quite strong, some even say they are stronger than the f35 in the ss.

HP Tuners is very popular tuner for GM OEM ECMs, check this out and you'll see what is supported: https://www.hptuners.com/vehicles/

the reluctor wheel has to match the computer system. if your going to swap the harness and modules to 07-08 stuff, use the crank thats in the 07 engine.
for your power goals i would be going with some aftermarket rods and pistons (eagle rods, wiseco pistons) and a set of head studs. if you are going to rev it to 7500 id also do a balance shaft delete and a set of valve springs, any higher than that id be looking at an ati damper. cams are your choice. the stock head does flow fairly well, but can always be improved upon. the exhaust side really does benefit from some attention.
if you havent already, look up the gm sport compact build book, it can be found free online in pdf. it lines out pretty well what you need for your power goals. just keep in mind the info in that book is a little dated.
