just got a ticket for 54 in a 35mph zone on my lunch

Hey everyone,

So heres the story. I was on alpha and midway in farmers branch on my lunch. These two cbr600s pull next to me and they both gun it and they cop claimed i was doing 54 in a 35 which i doubt that really even though i did gun it at the light. He ask me why i was playing with those bikes and i was like i wasnt because there twice as fast as me. Hes like i know. So i asked why didnt you pull them over and he said he tried but they got away so then he went after me instead. What the ****. Well this is my only ticket while being in texas for 4 years so im not sure what to do. I have a court number to call for fines and info. So do i want to plead no contest and take the drivers education course. I definetly dont want to go to court as im sure he will show and lie and then i would lose anyways.

So really what are my options for this??????????

Change your name and run to CANADA, otherwise man up and go to court.

if you go to court it will most likely get dropped but you'll have to pay more for that

i am going to take the defensivedriving.com course online so it wont affect my insurance. Im sure it will be a $100 to $200 fine which sucks but wont show up on my record and then insurance i will get a 15% discount.

He could of easily pulled the bikes over since they were doing 80 probably in a 35 and i bet he picked my car out because its modified.

Its funny to he didnt say nothing about my tinted tails or exhaust for being loud which all he really wanted to do was give me that damm ticket which is fine because i will take the defensivedriving and my ticket gets dropped so its fine with me.

I got a ticket. Now i have to take Defensive D. It sucks. But better than having a "felony" record.

You don't have to go the way of defensive driving. You could always hire a lawyer for less than 100 bucks. I hired one for 75, and that's all I paid (no court costs, d.d., nothing). All I had to do was show up in court a two times, and that was it.

Do the driver's education course. It'll clear it off your record completely AND make your insurance go down.

IIRC it was like $90 to take the course. I had to do it back in 2000. I'd only lived there about 6 months and had to take a detour home, was cruising at 40 which was the posted limit and appearantly there was an unmarked school zone. So I got busted for that, just said f-it and did the course.

You will be bored out of your damn mind, but it's better than trying to go through the court system and it costs about the same as going in and pleading not guilty.

^^most likely, they'll only let you count for one or the other. Not both. So if you're taking d.d. for court, then your insurance company probably won't accept it. It all depends on who fronts you for your car. I have Liberty Mutual and they wouldn't let me.

As far as the lawyer business is concerned (just suggesting an alternative here), it will never show up on your record as well.

State Farm absolutely accepted it for me and they knew it was to take care of a ticket.

talk about a post that doesnt make sense....if a ticket gets DROPPED then you DONT have to pay for it all..certainly not "more"

and while defensive driving should have been your first choice to get rid of the ticket there is another option before a lawyer..
its called "deferral " (spelling?") its kind of like driving probation...you go to the magistrate, tell them you got a ticket and you want a deferral..they charge you a deferral fee, and put you on 90 day driving probation...if you go 3 months without getting another ticket then they drop the first one all together...if you get ANOTHER one in that time then you have to pay for both...ive done it a couple times myself and been pretty satisfied

You have to factor missing a day of work in aswell. That alone would pay for about two tickets for me. I had one in my last GT and it was cheaper to just pay it.

For 19 over, the DD course is a little worth it. I just registered / licensed in TX so I could take it. (ghey speed trap got me for 13 over)

The fee might be different in Dallas, but for us it's $107 to the court, then you need a copy of your driving record ($10-12 at txdot), and then a driving course ($25). You don't really have to miss a day of work, just take one of the online courses on a weekend when you're not doing anything important.

$142 vs $162 + insurance in my case. The downside is I registered and got my TX license, which costed me $239. Oh well, at least it's done and over with.

I just paid my ticket today for $107 and signed up for texas defensive driving online and once i complete and pass it my ticket is dropped out and then i will be calling my insurance company to get a discount for taking this course. Its also nice because i can do this defensive driving online while im at work and get paid for it even.
