RIP TVS Cobalt

Motor blew last night...

...looking at beater cars now.

options
1. sell as is IF possible
2. replace all the stock parts including stage 2 tune, tow it to dealer
3. rebuild with better internals

I need shop recommendations, Houston area

I'd definetly keep it man and build it with stronger internals. also if you sold as is you'll never get back what you paid for it so you might as well keep it and make it even better than before.

Yes, would be very helpful information. Did a piston go? If I were you, depending on the damage I would rebuild it and forge everything. Once its fresh again with forged internals you will be ready to go and with a good tune this won't happen again.

54k on the odo

I'm guessing a piston, there was a huge plume of white smoke and it sounded like a wrx.
It blew when i was playing with this other black cobalt I let him gun it in 3rd like 4 lengths ahead, just see if how much of a reel in Id do. In 4th the RPMs wouldnt climb when it started to get around 5k, then started to fall, then there was a blinking cel...

272 whp @ 6100, 254 wtq, psycotuned, Harrop 1320 80mm pulley, 60 lbs injectors, G85 w/ sunroof & xm, injen intake, gmpp cat, gmpp header, dual pass end plate, cx racing h/e, exedy stage 3 clutch/flywheel, ttr motor mount, ttr trans mount, drilled slotted rotors front and back

how much you think thats worth with and without the blown motor

Seeing how stock motors are seeing 320-400whp, I will venture to say the tune. 3.15" pulley isn't moving that much air...

Ok, I think I'm gonna get the forge internals and build it. I'll start a build thread.

heres my shopping list... Im assuming based on other builds
1. beater car/or motorcycle
2. http://www.turbotechracing.com/produ...idproduct=5094
I know compression is 9.5:1
I'm guessing yes to ring set
bore and coating no clue yet
3. probably need this http://www.turbotechracing.com/produ...idproduct=4991
4. arp head studs

hopefully no valves...

the tune was your issue, hands down, no questions about it.

stock motors (mine included) have survived far harsher environments, and power levels.

you were on a fairly large pulley as well.

none the less, i'd forge her. Its easy to do and leads to plenty of fun once your done.

dual coated diamonds, new rings, fresh hone, head studs, and head work/cams if you have the cash.

get her re-tuned ASAP once shes back together.

good luck!

what does him having a large pully have to do with him not blowing his engine? it has to do with how much boost and how much air he is forcing in his motor which was 20psi and not pully size. and thats alot of boost on a stock headgasket. sure their are people that do it but its not safe and sure it could have other things that have caused his engine to go but i think his headgasket blew and caused other damage. that sucks you just fixed your tranny and now this.
